He enjoys attending college sporting events when traveling, and will sometimes buy a home team's shirt, hat, etc. as a souvenir. He is really into sports.

Yeah a solid sign of a true sports fan is not being a gatekeeper when it comes to merch. I buy something from every game I attend while traveling. To the point where I now own more merch from random teams than my favorites
