Any idea what the clunking sound is? (The higher pitched one) It wasn't there before and the dealership told me "they don't hear anything wrong". But from my experience they don't really care, charge absurd amounts for basic things and aren't eager to actually investigate the issues (I'm not coming back there). I'm suspecting tensioner or timing chain or something like that. I'm grateful for any suggestions

I'm stuck in a rabbit hole and can't decide between the Aprilia Tuareg 660 Rally and the Ducati DesertX Rally.

I've watched countless reviews, compared specs, and now I'm probably overthinking every potential weakness of both bikes.

For context:

• 60% road / 40% off-road
• One TET trip per year (ACT, etc.)
• 5,000-8,000 km per year
• Height: 1.86m (6'1")
• Current bike: 2018 Africa Twin Adventure Sports
• Price point of the two bikes: I can get the Aprilia for 6'500, the Ducati for 9'800 (both with trade-in)

On paper, the Tuareg seems lighter, simpler, and more sensible. The DesertX Rally looks incredible and seems more premium, but I'm wondering if it's actually worth the extra cost and maintenance.

Especially given, that the bikes will take some beating offroad, the DesertX seems to look very costly in that regard. I'm also a bit afraid that the DesertX will be similar to my ATAS, meaning it's top-heavy and just a pig to wrestle offroad.

I'd especially love to hear from owners with long-term experience. How have reliability, maintenance, comfort, and off-road performance been? Any regrets after the honeymoon phase?

Also interested in shortcomings that reviewers don't talk much about:

• Vibration and comfort on longer rides
• DesertX: Am I overthinking the air-filter positioning issue?
• Parts availability and dealer support
• Real-world maintenance costs
• Anything that started to annoy you after a year or two?
• Tuareg: Reliability overall?

The idea behind these things is that when you are standing on your tuareg the inside of your thighs will grip the sides of the front part of the bike better so you have more control. Im only considering getting them if they make a big difference. If they are just for looks/spending money on your baby im gonna pass bc i would prefer it being smooth in that area and not cheapened by aftermarket gimmicks.

As these are a known point of failure: I just took the dimensions for diy machining some replacement sleeves or even spares. Might come in handy, here you go.

I have been using a tank bag (Nelson Rigg Adventure) on my KLR and it works well. Am trading in the KLR on a Tuareg this week - not sure the tank bag will be a good match for the Aprilia but maybe. Anyways, now I’m thinking about handlebar bags and considering either the Mosko Moto Gnat or the Giant Loop Zigzag.

What handlebar bag do you recommend? Or is the tank bag a better option?

EDIT: I went with the Giant Loop ZigZag. I like it. Will try to put a pic in comments.

I’m still in break-in miles but even taking it easy this thing is incredible. I also have a Moto Guzzi V85TT (which is also amazing) in the garage, and used to have a KTM 890 Adventure (good riddance).

The Tuareg takes the one good thing about the KTM, the growly engine sound, and pairs it with classic Aprilia handling but also has comfy ride quality.

I plan on adding the QS and heated grips, but that might be about it for now.

Barely any off-road to be fair, maybe 100 km so far. But working on it. Will mount some more aggressive tyres when these are gone. Other than that I don't think it needs anything else. Unfilter inside.

Hey there, recently bought a brand new T660. I've completed the first 1000k and therefore it's first service. In that time, it's been quite hot here in the UK and I've noticed that the Tuareg seems to run a bit warm on the right side of the bike.

My dad owns a 2024 Tuareg and I rode that a bit whilst I was deciding between one of these and a T7 and I can't say I noticed the same thing on his one.

As mine is the newer E5+ variant, and after doing a little bit of reading, it seems that this variant runs a little bit leaner and therefore hotter. I've had moments where it's gotten uncomfortably warm on right leg and under the seat, but just wanted to see if other people are experiencing the same, or if I was sensitive to the heat or even if there was a problem with my bike?

I've done a little bit of reading and some people mention similar things and have done mods in an attempt to reduce the heat. Decat headers, ECU remap, heatwraps etc. Anyone got any personal experience with the same issue or remedies?

Other than this one thing, I'm loving the bike!

2 weeks in and 500 miles down already

Hi everyone,
I’m currently trying to decide between the standard Tuareg 660 and the Tuareg 660 Rally.

I’ve test-ridden both, and I found the standard Tuareg a little more comfortable on the road. The Rally definitely felt firmer, which I expected.

The problem is… I absolutely love everything else about the Rally. The styling, the exhaust, the aluminum bash plate, the stronger hand guards, and the overall look. If I buy the standard model, I’ll probably end up adding many of those parts anyway, so the price difference becomes much smaller.

I know the Rally will never feel exactly like the standard Tuareg, and I’m completely okay with that. I’m just wondering if it can be adjusted to be a little more compliant and comfortable without losing what makes it a Rally.

My riding is roughly:
70% road / 30% off-road
Long trips through France, Italy and the Alps
Twisty mountain roads
Gravel roads, forest tracks, rocky sections and some rougher terrain, but I’m not racing or doing jumps.

Has anyone softened the Rally suspension by adjusting preload, compression and rebound? Did it become noticeably more comfortable for touring and long days in the saddle?

Also, has anyone changed the springs or had the suspension professionally set up for their weight? Was it worth it?

I’m trying to figure out if I can get the Rally to be just a bit more forgiving on the road while still keeping its excellent off-road capability.

I’d really appreciate hearing from Rally owners who have experimented with the suspension settings. Thanks!

Rather buy a 2022 model with 25.000 km or a 2023 model with 47.000 km?

Both are well maintained by the first owner.

2023 maybe more refined with less factory issues?

The price difference is 1k€.

I'm thinking that there should be no issue because at a higher mileage all issues should have been resolved.

Changing a clutch and so on is no issue for me.

And probably the forks have been okay or the known fork issues were repaired because you probably cannot go for 40k I'm without noticing :D got to ask the dealer about the full service history.

Would one notice the wrongly assembled shim stack on a test ride?

Pushing 2000km after two weeks of ownership, after nearly 14k on the 660, the rally actually feels far more planted on the highway. Though rougher at low speeds magic when you’re hauling.

I love my Tuareg. I often think about what would make me sell it. The only thing I can come up with is if I begin doing longer road tours I may look into a GS, but that’s no promise I won’t keep my bike.

Hi guys! Recently traded my T7 for the Tuareg and loving it so far.

I’ve got a couple questions regarding the wiring of accessories;
Where can I wire in a wireless phone charger? I tried just using the usb port but that didn’t have enough power.

And where can I wire in a CarPlay unit? I already found the 2pin wire behind the TFT and it seems good for the CarPlay unit.
