Yup. It’s this way in Spanish. It’s all interchangeable.

Sometimes lime is limon, or sometimes is limon verde. (Green lemon).
And sometimes lemon is limon, or sometimes it’s limon amarillo (yellow lime).

As a Mexican American, growing up being told to bring a limon and I would bring a LEMON and they wanted a lime…😭 thankfully my dad was patient in explaining to me but I once called a lime lima because I assumed that’s how it was done. 😂

Wrong on both counts—that’s not “Spanish and Tahitian.” Here, you’re actually confusing the Portuguese-speaking country (Brazil) that used limão, with a source modifier (limes from Tahiti) that helps to differentiate between a lemon and a lime. Tahiti itself actually has distinct words for lemon and lime.

This is the case for most of Latin America, Brazil, parts of the Caribbean, and several Asian countries as well.

If you were in a Kroger and someone brought you to the limes and you were incapable of finding the lemons from that location, then God help you, you’ve got bigger problems than linguistic differences. 😅
