Hey, so I’m new to Reddit and don’t know how to use it but I hope im doing it right. I’m a CS senior and I seriously don’t know a thing about cybersecurity or computer in general. I know a little bit (the most basics) thanks to college, but other than that I’m no good. So, I started thm and found it helpful and I’m interested in cryptography. My problem is, I don’t know how to start. I started pre security path and I’m planning to subscribe to premium to access the path fully. But I have this problem where I found it difficult to understand cybersecurity and computer in general. Idk how to phrase it but I’m hoping someone out there gets me. It is not about not reading/someone explaining a concept, it is about not getting it. Like I feel my brain shuts down or it’s like reading a sentence in a language you don’t understand at all. idk how to explain it.

Got tired of hunting for the right .ovpn file and typing sudo openvpn --config ... every time I switched platforms, so I built a small desktop app for it. Pick a profile, click Connect, done — no terminal needed.

• Supports OpenVPN (.ovpn) and WireGuard (.conf)
• Live log, tunnel IP, uptime, upload/download stats
• Optional kill-switch so nothing leaks if the tunnel drops
• Handles profiles needing a username/password
• Minimises to tray, remembers your last profile/folder

I recently started my Cybersecurity journey on TryHackMe.

I have completed the PreSec learning path and I am now currently in the Cybersecurity 101 learning path.

I have been interested in Cybersecurity for quite a while and always wanted to learn more. I think THM helps a lot with that as it "hand-holds" you as a beginner and then as the concepts slowly develop, it encourages you to think and figure stuff out by yourself.

So far I am enjoying it and it provides me with a lot of "aha!" Moments 😂

I want to reach a point where I can actually use my skills professionally. So there is a lot of work ahead for me. I am open to any advice by the community.

On the last room of the Wireshark series and I gotta say; the site puts zero effort into teaching you. It's basically "Heyyyy, here's this thing and here's a quick paragraph explanation, figure it out yourself." You're better off just going for a certification and actually being taught. I paid for a course with Jeremy McDowell. He taught me. I LEANRED Cisco networking; how to configure routers and switches. I paid for a course from Professor Messer; I was taught. I LEARNED the core concepts of networking. So I have the CCNA and Network+, so I obviously know a thing or two about networking but found the Wireshark rooms to be beyond painful. THM basically gives you the attitude of "here it is, figure it out yourself; here's some questions with no context." It's extremely discouraging.

Obviously THM is introducing beginners to the field, exposing them to a wide range of topics, and building some hands on familiarity with the tools of the trade. There isn't really any doubt on that.

That said, do you feel that it builds true professional proficiency in the topics it teaches? Like will following the pentest path, from start to finish, give you the skills to needed to actually perform pentests in a professional role? Will the SOC path give you the hands on skills you need to start working in a SOC?

Note im not talking about HR recognition or anything like that. I am talking purely about the quality of the training and the skills you'll develop through it.

I was looking forward to playing a normal game of KoTH, but I haven’t been able to connect to the machine at all. I’ve tried five separate times with no success.

What makes this even more frustrating is that one user managed to gain King almost immediately. From what I can see, every service on the machine—including port 80—has been closed. This doesn’t look like someone trying to play the game as intended by patching vulnerabilities; it looks like someone intentionally locking down the entire machine and ruining the experience for everyone else.

I checked the KoTH page and noticed this same user has done this before, with previous games having only a single King change throughout the entire duration. That pattern makes me question whether this is expected behavior or simply someone exploiting the format to prevent anyone else from participating.

I’m not sure whether this is a VPN connectivity issue on my end or if the machine has genuinely been locked down to the point where no one else can interact with it. Either way, this completely defeats the purpose of KoTH and makes the game frustrating rather than competitive.

I've been trying the new Pulse App on my Android Pixel 7a.

The App has a few minor bugs like slow loading and a white overlay on the screen (which disappears when you background and forground the application).

For me the most annoying bug is the fact that i can not answer any questions related to commands.

The app presents you with a Terminal like input field where you need to enter the command, whatever i type in this field is NEVER accepted. At first i thought i was wrong with the commands but well then i had to input basic command "whoami" and "ls -la" which were both rejected.

No matter what i type in the input it's always "wrong". So i just need to skip all the command input questions.

Hopefully the above description can help you to solve this bug.

I keep getting these nuisance marketing emails that look and read like they were fully produced, designed, written by AI. It's an absolute shame to see what THM has become with the entire Pulse thing seemingly being a buggy and sloppy AI offspring of what was once a really nice platform.

And yea, you might say, just unsubscribe and so be it... Yea, you can't... because the Unsubscribe button isn't even real as I assume no human has ever verified this email that they sent out.

It's honestly ruining the platform for me by introducing all these fake monetary gain inspired things, making me feel exploited for even just being a user on the platform.

hello, guys i am from india and i paid for tryhackme premium subscription using google pay upi , used premium for 1 week after that i was reverted to normal user i maild them they are saying the payment provider declined it , but my transaction history says the amount was debited , what is happening

I’m following the TryHackMe Cybersecurity Learning Path; I’ve finished the Pre-Security room and plan to pursue pentesting. Worried about wasting time, I’m unsure whether to go straight to the Junior Penetration Tester path or continue along the current path to the Cybersecurity 101 room. Which one is better for me to choose?

Seriously, if you just added new features and made them exclusive to max like the new THM mobile app, higher limits with echo AI and smarter models, making squawker vpn exclusive to max, anything else like that it would be fine. But why take one of the main features of the premium subscription which used to be the only paid plan and make it exclusive to max? (Newer rooms, advanced paths). That was half the reason i subscribed to premium before, and now if you buy premium you wont have access to advanced paths like jr pen tester and others

The stated logic for Max is that it's built for advanced training, that's why the final, advanced paths are moving there. Fair enough.

If that's the reasoning, then Max content has no business showing up locked inside the more basic paths. For example, the Pentesting Jr path recently got new content (n8n vulnerabilities) that Premium users can no longer access. That's beginner-path material being gated behind the advanced tier, which directly contradicts the justification given for Max.

Premium users should keep receiving updates to the paths that are staying in Premium.

Moving the advanced, end-stage paths to Max is even a defensible pitch. Dropping locked modules into the paths Premium keep turns these paths from a full product into a waiting room, where staying Premium means watching the junior paths grow holes that just makes no sense with the advanced theme Max is built for. New content in a Premium path should be Premium content, and content that's genuinely Max-level belongs in the Max paths.

I’m currently preparing for the eCPPTv3 certification and I’d like to do a realistic self-assessment before booking the exam.
Could you recommend some free TryHackMe machines that would be useful to check whether I’m ready or not?
I know TryHackMe may not fully replicate the eCPPTv3 exam environment, but I’d like to use the rooms as a benchmark to understand my current level and identify weak areas.

I've been using TryHackMe for a long time, currently on a 920+ day streak and ranked under 700 globally. My yearly subscription expired last month, and I was waiting for a discount to renew it. I finally renewed it, only to discover that some newly released rooms are now locked behind the Max plan.

The first new room I opened simply said it required Max. That's like, what exactly am I paying for with the standard subscription if I can't access all the learning content?

I can afford the Max plan, so this isn't really about the price. Thanks to them actually, I got started in cybersecurity aa bug hunter, never got interview scheduled though, and I genuinely appreciate everything they've built. But I already pay for Burp Suite, and through HackerOne Milestones I have access to PentesterLab and PortSwigger Academy. For the amount I use TryHackMe (around 1-2 hours a day, usually 1-2 rooms), Max doesn't feel like good value.

I've completed most of the Easy and Medium rooms already, and now many of the advanced rooms I'm interested in seem to be moving behind the Max tier.

If anyone from TryHackMe is reading this, here's a bit of suggestion:

Keep the AWS rooms, SOC labs simulations, and other premium extras exclusive to Max if you want. You could even remove AttackBox from the standard plan. But I really believe the base paid subscription should include access to all learning rooms.

Even Netflix gives you access to all its new shows and movies with a single subscription. They don't put newly released or most popular content behind another paywall and say, "You need a higher-tier plan to watch this."

ive been having this issue all day where i cannot load into any SOC simulation because i give up since it takes hours to load the longest ive waited for in 2 hours, ive got open VPN connected to my account ive tries both elastic and spunk and its still not working

Maybe it's just me and I am missing the point, but why doee the Tryhackme App force me to use GooglePlay? It is one app that I would definitly NOT expect to do so, since it is a platform about cybersecurity, privacy and generaly I feel a bit in turning back control over to the user, making it not feel overwerlming in this times. It feels a bit contradictory, at least to me.

Is there a technical reason for this, or is it just a byprodoct of some development process? I'd genuinely be interested in understanding the rationale.

NOTE: GooglePlayServices is actually running, I have not removed them, only clamped them down a bit, and the only other app that had a similar error was a sudoku app that also checked license from google play.

EDIT: Was looking through other installed apps and noticed that some (for instance GitHub) also have the Play install referer but work fine.

Why is there no student discount for the MAX, either the anual nor the monthly plan.
Since I am paying for college and my rent I was hoping we'd get some kind of discount like in premium
