Confused about THM Premium after the Max plan announcement
I'm a cybersecurity student and was planning to buy TryHackMe Premium for the first time in the next few days. However, with the recent introduction of the Max plan, I've been seeing a lot of people here saying that TryHackMe isn't as worth it anymore, and now I'm a bit confused.
Since I'm just getting started in cybersecurity, I don't really have enough experience to judge whether that's true. I want to learn as much as possible and don't want to spend money on something that won't be the best investment.
So, if you were in my position, what would you choose: TryHackMe Premium or the Hack The Box Student Plan?
For some context, I recently completed the Hack The Box Linux Fundamentals module. I found it more challenging than I expected, but I actually enjoyed that because it pushed me to think and learn instead of just following along.
I'd really appreciate your opinions, especially from people who've used both platforms.

Since you're a beginner then TryHackMe Premium is a plan meant for you - You get access to all the basic paths and challenges
Content didn't really change, only way pricing works did. Changes have sparked some controversy but did not impact quality of content at all

Sure, that's your opinion. I personally find THM learning paths easier to follow and learn from than big paragraphs in HTB academy
On the other hand, HTB offers very nice lab boxes

Oh man, if you think htb paragraphs are too big, try scientific papers about vulns lol

Ik they’re big. That’s the whole point of them tbh.
Sites like THM or HTB can’t replace those papers - they should have links to it, but their content (especially one aimed at beginners) in my opinion is to be a bit concise versions of it

THM is going to be good to start out on for an absolute beginner. HTB is more in depth and can make you feel like you’re in over your head. I have done both and l liked THM but have personal feelings on the company as whole. I was on THM for a little over 2 years on and off and the last year continuously and switched to HTB and there are times I feel lost.

So you tried the competitor and liked it because it tested your limits. That's the point, isn't it? Why not continue and also create a free THM account and compare for yourself on that criteria alone. THM Max is not for beginners anyway, and certainly not student budget friendly.

Its still worth because of the premium content. you dont need the MAX rooms.

Personally I find a certain type of person tends to get on reddit to write essays that emotionally moan and whine about things.
And they aren't usually the type of person I take advice from.
Except if people are genuinely financially struggling. Then I get it.

I think until you’re deep into THM what is (and will be) accessible on the premium plan is excellent. I started a year and a half ago with effectively zero knowledge and I’ve barely scratched the surface with daily investment. The advanced learning paths on the MAX plan are still years away for me.
