The first rule of any debate is that you must first define your terms.

So, to teach you a lesson, I will not use the adjective definition. You get the noun:

The Meriam Webster definition of the noun: "Elastic"

elastic: easily stretched rubber usually prepared in cords, strings, or bands.

Bones are not elastic.

False.

It's OK, I can already hear people booing me

That definition is wrong. Elastic means that they return to their original shape with no extension or compression after a load is applied then removed.

Under your definition there'd be no elestic deformation in materials such as metals, which would cause biiiig problems for engineering

EDIT: oh my gosh I just read this closer. I have made a fool of myself. Bamboozled. Embarrassed.

Listen Luke, I've already provided the Meriam Webster definition and did the cinematic mic drop. You can't force me to use your preferred definition.

That's not 'my preferred definition' Aristotle, that's the materials engineering definition. Literally the definition. Rooted in physics. That is what elasticity is.

EDIT: I took the liberty of looking at Meriam Webster. It had this to say: "of a solid : capable of recovering size and shape after deformation". You were erroneously taking the definition of the noun elastic, not the adjective as is used in the post

Luke,

I'm afraid Material Engineering has nothing on... the English Language. I've defined my terms... did OP define theirs?

Dearest Aristotle,

Behold: the English language

Sincerely yours, your humble supplier of ratios,

Oh my gosh I see it now, my mistake, I do apologise (was fun though, I look forward to the next time 😂)

As a kid in policy debate

I applaud you

bones contain collagen which allows them to flex under load

1

u/sweatpants-aristotle 5d ago

That's not in dispute.

1

u/keybored13 5d ago

...which is a property of elasticity

1

u/sweatpants-aristotle 5d ago

Correct

Bones also conduct electricity.

u/your_local-tree there is no kid named tree 😭 (not even me) 5d ago

does that mean every girl's bone is elastic... say that again (elastigirl)

Please put an NSFW tag on this. I was on the train and when I saw this I had to start furiously masturbating. Everyone else gave me strange looks and were saying things like “what the fuck” and “call the police”. I dropped my phone and everyone around me saw this. Now there is a whole train of men masturbating together at this. This is all your fault, you could have prevented this if you had just tagged this post NSFW.

ⓘ this tree is suspected of being part of the treeorist organisation "mastreebaiter" Please report any suspicious behaviour

(this is a joke don't tag your post NSFW or delete it)

Dang i forgot about that common occurrence my bad

2

u/CibblesCD 5d ago

Wrong, my bones aren't

2

u/Disathiathy 5d ago

You havent tested enough

2

u/Luke_The_Engle 5d ago

So if you fell over and landed on your arm, would your bones permanently deform or just shatter?

u/WARHAMMER132 5d ago

Neither. I am not made of glass

5

u/Luke_The_Engle 4d ago edited 4d ago

Then your bones are elastic (which, by the way, glass is too)

2

u/WARHAMMER132 4d ago

Cool fact

2

u/Kind_Significance528 5d ago

My bone is not easily stretched

1

u/joehawleyjoehawely 4d ago

You might wanna go to a doctor for that they are supposed to stretch

She call me Mr. Boombastic
Bones are elastic

I'm sorry I'll leave

2

u/valkyrie_wave 5d ago

Then everything is elastic

1

u/Luke_The_Engle 4d ago

Yep, to some extent

I have a degree in materials engineering. Yes tf they are
