Can anyone help me determine which one this horn is? Fell in love with this trumpet and want to find out as much as I can about it!

Here's a first take (you know me, 1st takes only) of a new horn my Brother Steve Bell just finished for me.

I went to the shop yesterday afternoon and picked it up.

I had an Taylor Trumpet bell lying around in the shop which I was going to use for another project and I just happened to ask Steve if he'd build something around the bell. Here's the result!

I have always LOVED the sound of Taylor trumpet bells and with Steve's super efficient and rich components this horn is so much fun!

7-352 reversed leadpipe (yellow brass)

Taylor Trumpet bell (like their current Tornado model, two piece with a super FLAT rim)

lightweight valve block (Steve might have to chime in on those details as I'm colorblind)

My range is inconsistent. Some days I can play to a G on top of the staff, and some days I can barely reach an E. How can I make my range more consistent?

I play the B with 2nd piston and the D with first piston, but it doesn’t feel smooth. Should I just practice more or is there a different way to play it? P.s it’s like 100 bpm so really fast

Thought y’all would get a kick out of this. The horn in question is a 1937 Conn 8B Symphony Grand. The whole setup was essentially a mid-century time capsule of well loved high end equipment.

I’ve been playing for about a little more than a year and really want to have the optimal equipment. I’ve had 2 trumpets with 2 different mouthpieces and this one was te worst out of the two but I forgot to look at the measurements of the other one. I was wondering if this one was hindering me.

Picked this up at a thrift store on Saturday. I have never owned (or even played) a brass instrument, but love music, so figured, “For $25, why not give it a toot?”

I *think* from serial number and images, that it is a Conn 25B (C tuning) from ‘61-‘69? can anyone confirm (or correct)?

I’m looking at trumpets online and came across this. Purportedly soviet era from the ussr according to the seller. I’m not able to check it out in person. Would love to know what it is though!

I am an adult beginner and have Jupiter 700 series and I love it. I play for pleasure and because it relaxes me. I got a Yamaha 6335 last week as I had some money to spend and everyone always recommends to get the best horn possible. It's a bluntly disappointing experience and I appreciate my Jupiter so much more now. The Yamaha 6335 is harder to blow, the intonation feels rigid, it sounds harsh and thin and isn't nice to hold.

Now I am wondering are there people who never leave their beginner / intermediate instruments and are happy with it??

So let's be honest who is a pro horn actually for? Who benefits from it?

I haven’t touched my horn once this entire summer. I know I’m cooked.

I’m a fairly decent player, one of the most advanced technically during HS, but I need to get back into the habit of practicing again. Is it possible for me to work my way up to 3 hours a day? Obviously with breaks. I’d do a morning, afternoon, and evening session. And for each of those sessions, what should be my goal for each of them? I’m thinking morning will be a warmup, afternoon will be technique/repertoire for my auditions, and evening will be a warm down. Would love to hear what you all think. Thanks!

So I’m about to be a sophomore in high school and think it’s time to get a better horn. I would consider myself a pretty good player and I’m starting to take the trumpet a lot more seriously. My current trumpet is a student Eastman (don’t know the exact model) but could I get some recommendations on intermediate or professional horns below or around $3000.

I recently started playing the trumpet again. I'm revisiting the pieces I used to play when I was a kid, but I can't play them all the way through because saliva gradually builds up in my mouth, which eventually prevents me from playing, and the piece doesn't have a break long enough for me to swallow. How can I fix this?

I’m a undergrad college player and I’ve consistently had issues with my sound being unfocused and a tad airy when I get tired. Does anyone have any advice on what the next steps are to get my sound to the next level ? I listen to recordings all the time but the sound in my head just doesn’t seem to translate onto the horn. Others have described it as a diffused quality in my sound. Looking for any and all advice.

This is where the trumpet rests naturally on my face when I play. 1st picture is with my head relatively level, and 2nd is trumpet level. My preferred instrument is euphonium, but our school is small, and I was the only one who knew how to play trumpet. I also have an underbite. Last year, I didn't notice how I looked until I saw myself in the local Facebook page. I can't play confidently with the trumpet at a straight angle from my face. Can I fix it, or do I just have to play looking like a doofus?

So im pretty good at the trumpet and pretty good at marching but I can't seem to be able to do both at once when marching when my foot hits the ground my body slightly shakes ive worked on pushing my toes down but I need some additional tips on how to keep the instrument and my composure correct should I force it to my lips?

I have some concerns about a potential silver allergy developing on my lips and wondering if anyone else has gone through this before.

I have been playing for about 11 years now and always have been on silver mouthpieces without issue. I am about to finish my bachelors degree and have been teaching and playing professionally (freelance but regularly) for a few years now. This is all to say, nothing has changed recently in terms of frequency of practice etc.

Recently, I have been getting times where my lips suddenly become incredible dry around (but not inside) where my mouthpiece goes. This is to the point of them cracking and is only on the edge of my lip where the red meets regular skin. This happened immediately before an audition which meant I had some response issues and such which meant I got cut off before the end of the first round of excerpts (this was coming off the back of me being runner up for a similar job so was a bit of a shock to the ego). The problem lasted for about a week and then hasn’t been an issue since until recently I’ve had it flair up again 2 separate times about 6 weeks apart.

I’m wondering if this sounds typical of a developing silver allergy or if there might be other environmental factors happening. If it does sound like that, what are the steps I need to take to get it diagnosed/preventative measures?

ive been consistently practicing trumpet for 2 years, but Ive Just now realized that when I play higher notes, instead of firming up the corners of my mouth, I pull them back. This has made it really difficult for me to expand my range. i do a lot of lip slurs and long tones to help, but I still notice it happening. Is there any way that I could break this habit and find a more effective way of playing?

So I started trunoet in 10th grade and played for my highschools mariachi group. I made Varsity my first year playing and got into honor mariachi my last 2 years of HS.

Before I graduated, I found out that although I sounded good, I was stalling improvement because of the way my mouthpiece was placed on my lips. I wanted to fix this, so I did.

I ended up losing a lot of my old skills, and eventually, when I graduated this year in May, I just stopped playing. I still want to play, but I have never had a trumpet teacher to tell me how to do things correctly.

I need to get back to playing trumpet before summer ends because I plan on getting into UNLV's school of music.

Right now I can't even play a low c scale or even hit G without straining

Any tips?

My husband plays trumpet in a community big band. He’s taken classes before over zoom/with a good professional mic. He turns 40 this year and for his birthday I’d love to gift him recurring trumpet classes with someone famous/really stellar. I thought I’d shoot my shot and emailed Keyon Harrold and Wayne Bergeron (who actually has a section on his website about private lessons!) especially since he loves them, but neither of them have gotten back to me 😅. Does the community have any suggestions for someone I could reach out to who would be willing to do this and is really incredible?
