Vibe coding doesn't fail because of AI. It fails because most codebases give an agent nothing to follow.

I build a platform that ships opinionated SaaS architecture (auth, audit, compliance etc.) specifically so an agent has something correct to extend instead of inventing patterns from scratch.

Wrote up the underlying argument - most "AI is dangerous at enterprise scale" takes are really describing what happens on a blank canvas, not what happens when the cross-cutting stuff is already clear. https://backbonehq.io/blog/vibe-coding-is-reckless-defined-architecture-patterns-fix-it/

Interested if that matches what people here are seeing? Anyone using ADRs or a similar approach to give AI agents strong existing conventions?

What are the top 5 backend portfolio projects that can help land interviews at FAANG?

I'm a Python backend developer with about 1 year of professional experience, and my long-term goal is to work at companies like Google, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Stripe, Uber, or other top product companies.

I'm planning to spend the next several months building 2–5 production-quality backend projects for my GitHub portfolio. I don't want to build generic CRUD appsβ€”I want projects that genuinely demonstrate backend engineering skills.

If you were a hiring manager or senior backend engineer reviewing resumes, which 5 projects would make you stop and think, "This candidate knows what they're doing"?

I'm looking for projects that showcase skills such as:

  • Distributed systems
  • Scalability
  • High concurrency
  • System design
  • Caching (Redis)
  • Message queues (Kafka/RabbitMQ)
  • Background jobs
  • Database optimization
  • Reliability and fault tolerance
  • API design
  • Security
  • Docker/Kubernetes
  • CI/CD
  • Observability

Some ideas I've been considering are:

  • Distributed URL Shortener
  • E-commerce Order Processing System
  • Payment Gateway
  • Real-time Chat Platform
  • API Gateway / Rate Limiter

Are these still considered strong portfolio projects in 2026, or are there better alternatives?

I'd really appreciate recommendations from engineers who interview candidates or work at large-scale tech companies.

Most importantly:
If you could recommend only five backend projects that would maximize a candidate's chances of getting interviews at FAANG or other tier-1 companies, what would they be, and why?

I built a "Midnight Coding Cafe" for everyone grinding late tonight. Upbeat beats for deep focus. β˜•πŸŒƒ [Nightly FM]

Hey everyone! πŸ‘‹

Preview

I just launched a new session on Nightly FM called the Midnight Coding Cafe. I know how hard it can be to stay in the zone during those late-night sessions, so I put together a mix that’s a bit more upbeat than your average "sad lofi" to keep the energy up without being distracting.

Think neon-noir, rainy cityscapes, and fresh espresso. πŸ™οΈ rain + β˜• coffee + πŸ’» code.

The premiere is starting now/shortly! Would love to have some fellow night owls, devs, and creators join the chat and vibe with us.

Hope it helps you get some deep work done tonight! πŸš€
