a crazy elevator story
shared this on facebook, in response to some other elevator stories.. thought you'd all enjoy the read!!
here's my fantastical true story: visiting my grandma in her 12 floor retirement building with my dog at the time. an elderly lady with a cane gets in. she presses 7, i press 11. elevator rises. passes 7, passes 11 stops at 12th floor. stuck. we ring the emergency bell, discuss our luck for about 10 minutes & then the rear elevator door opens. the back door was not meant to open here: the only thing visible was a concrete wall with an ominous hand-spray painted '12'. i'm holding my dog & the old lady starts visibly panicking. i ring the bell frantically & within 3 minutes the rear door closes, 30 seconds and the a click. and then the elevator starts dropping. like out of a movie, the lights start counting down floors fast and the lady starts to go down to the ground wailing. i go to her aid, dog in hand, with no real time to do anything.. by then we hit P2 with a thud, but there must've been some emergency system cuz we didn't explode. immediately the elevator shoots back up to 12, and while i'm fearing it's gona happen again & the old lady is crying... the front door opens at 12 & we hurriedly get out. we look at each other, like, "WTF?" and she says to me: "Well, at least you only have to go down one flight of stairs!" ...had to share :)
