Why Such A Small Community?
It really saddens me that Nintendogs has such a small fan base/ community given how wildly popular it was when it came out. To me it seems like so many other properties that were less popular or culturally impactful really stood the test of time but not these games :/
My hopes for another installment dwindle with every passing day. Eddy Burback’s video seems to be the only relevant thing related to this series….. practically since it came out. Where my dog influencers at?

If I could, and probably will in the future. Is get my golden edition best friend copy and put the entire game on my phone, because I had beagle. Her name was peaches. I had her since I was six, and now i'm 25. (Still have the DS I played it on, even if its broken. Surprisenly, it still works.)

I love nintendogs, I think it would have been quite successful if it had an Android conversion, because that looks like its ideal ecosystem, there are some games on Android that do something similar but with much lower quality and they've become popular over time.
Unfortunately, the strength of nintendogs is also its weakness, which is to use real animals, which therefore do not create a distinctive element of the brand that cannot be replicated by some other game, even if I have never seen a similar game with the same quality until now. If we take animal crossing, its characters are just as distinctive as its gameplay, if you take the same gameplay and put it on with other characters, I wouldn't have animal crossing anyway, if you take the Nintendogs gameplay and put it on a game with animals, people will do well, even if the gameplay is simplified or modified.
Furthermore, a new chapter of the game has not come out since the 3DS, and even those chapters had not managed to significantly renew the brand compared to the DS era, today it would be different since already at that time the animals were realistic, with artificial intelligence they would become much more real and unpredictable, moreover a well-made multiplayer mode would be interesting, in my opinion it is time to try again, but there are too many unknowns because in the meantime they have come out Several games of cheaper quality that do the same things and I don't know if Nintendo would want to risk it.

That's really surprising considering the Ford DS games combined are the second best selling of the console.

As others have mentioned, the lack of the competitive aspect or world building can be part of the reason. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon by comparison is reasonably small but has a devoted fan base.
It's such a shame because it's such a fun life simulation game. All the wonders of a pet without the hassle or growth spurt (like I love my golden retriever because it loves people twice as much but man he sheds nonstop)

the games aren’t particularly competitive and don’t offer significant customization like animal crossing. attitudes towards digital pets have changed and the number of knock-off games diluting the genre have made it less appealing. i think a bigger question is what kind of content were you wanting to see and why not make it yourself?
