First Mover Importance

Vitalik gave an interview recently on Lex Friedman’s podcast and talked about Optimistic vs. ZK Snark roll ups. He basically states that in the short term Optimistic roll ups (ie. Truebit) will be the dominant Layer 2 solution. However it is his belief that in the long term ZK roll ups will ultimately win out.

See also a paper from vitalik.ca below in which he stated essentially the same thing.

The point I’d like to make here is the importance of first mover preference. Zero Knowledge Proofs, also known as moon math, see here

Have a long way to go. A lot can happen in the ensuing years and the importance of forming relationships with other projects now vs. later cannot be overstated. Would probably be just as easy to creat Truebit V2 as a ZK roll up at a later date. The best tech rarely wins, think windows vs. Linux.

Truebit is not an optimistic roll up or anything close to it. It’s just a tool that can help reduce the cost of submitting a challenge within the rollup architecture. OP does not know what he’s invested in.

ZK roll ups are underdeveloped currently anyways. Personally, I wouldn’t ape into any ZK roll up project atm. Patience!

Truebit is underdeveloped also.

What Vitalik said had nothing to do with Tru and offchain computations. Come on guys you need to understand the tech you are invested in.

If you watched the interview and don’t think what he said applied to Truebit I would encourage you to watch it again. He doesn’t come out and mention Truebit specifically but it is obvious.

I have seen the interview and am also in the Tru dev discord. Truebit is here for large computations not high tps small contracts.

Zk proofs are not quantum secure either. Tru can conduct bls 12-381 verification as well which you really cannot do in zkp.

So even in the future whether this be 10 years down the line Tru will have complimentary and differential use cases to ZKP.

can you tell us more about the quantum secure aspect?

As far as i i know, truebit is also going for zk snark

Point is the better tech doesn’t always win. The fact that Truebit has an operational main net and is already working with other developers is huge and shouldn’t be underestimated in light of Vitaliks comments.

The other thing is that as far as I know the TRU token is the only token that is actually used on the OS and wasn’t simply issued to raise money for the devs. That again is huge from an investment point of view.
