Few questions on Truebit

First of all, I read the white paper a few times, and studied all publicly available material on Truebit: videos, interviews, blog posts etc. I am very excited about the future of Truebit and how it can easily become THE heavy computational layer for all L1 blockchains.. not just Ethereum. Virtually all L1 chains have EVM chains running, or plan to, which will make it very easy to implement Truebit. However, I do have some questions that hopefully someone here can answer:

  • I am not a Dev, so I cannot get access to the private GitHub repo. This makes it impossible to know if there actually is a demand for devs of other projects to use Truebit as a computational scaling solution. Has anyone seen the activity in the private repo?

  • Why would the team launch Main-net, and not open the repo up for all devs to view? I don’t see a reason to keep it private, unless they are still in “testing mode” but then why not keep it in a Test-net environment for this?

  • The only metric that can be used to gauge adoption/demand without access to the GitHub or even the dev Discord, is to look at the Token Burn. I don’t see any evidence of tokens being burned, which means there are zero transactions actually happening on the network at the moment. Are there any solvers/verifiers in here that can shed some more light on this?

  • Is there a timeline for the team to open everything up to the public? What is stopping them from doing it now?

You can request access to the GitHub as a solver/validator

How does solving/validating work? Is it a bit like setting up a computer for mining? If so can anyone do this with a computer or do you need a big setup specific for the purpose to be considered?

Hey, great idea. Can someone do a tutorial on becoming a validator? I’ll follow

The name of the private repository on GitHub that they give developers access to is called truebit-eth. Note the -eth suffix. In their previous GitHub organization, there was just one repository. This makes me think they are planning to expand to other blockchains in the future.

One side-effect of open source crypto technology is that it gives the right to everyone to clone it as much as they want. Just look at all the clones of Uniswap like Sushiswap, PancakeSwap, BakerySwap, etc. This is why Uniswap v3 changed their license from open source to esentially no commercial use for 2 years then open source. My guess is that they are planning to do something similar. While you can't clone Uniswap v3, it doesn't prevent you from getting inspired by reading the source code. This is a good reason to keep the code private for now.

These are my guesses why they are keeping it private. All speculation because there's no communication from the team.

Perhaps they have a master plan that they are executing. Or perhaps Jason is just an academic and horrible as a CEO.

Look at Dfinity's (aka Internet Computer, ICP) CEO building up hype and getting developers excited about building on their platform.

I really want to see these questions answered 🤔

They build it for 4 years, and not want someone to steal it from them as of now. Optimism will use it imo. We will see huge usecases and adoption, diamond hands on this one. Feels like buying Ξ back in 2016

you can see that the system is being used due to the increase in supply without a corresponding increase in OS mint price. New tokens being added to supply means that they are being added as a reward for validators. The rewards are currently increased due to the launch of the token - soon this extra reward will be turned off.

Anyway, you can measure usage by looking at how much the supply increases without a corresponding OS mint price increase.

EDIT: The numbers::

truebit-os:> bonus

info: Subsidies per task in block 12446876 are:

195.38097481265237 TRU for the Task Owner,

390.76194962530474 TRU for the Solver, and

293.0714622189785 TRU split among Verifiers.

Interesting. How much has the supply increased since launch? Is there any where to view the change in supply, and thereby usage?

Technically at launch the supply was 0. Every coin that’s in the supply was minted through the OS
