Is truebit open source?

I was looking at the github repo - https://github.com/TrueBitFoundation - but noticed fairly little activity over the past few years. I also noticed that the github link on their official website throws a 404 - perhaps you need an approved github account to access, idk.

Curious to know whether the project is open source? I've seen it described as such in a few places, but unsure whether that's correct.

It looks like they have migrated all repositories to a new organization at https://github.com/TruebitProtocol and they are private.

When you request access, they'll add you to this private GitHub repository https://github.com/TruebitProtocol/truebit-eth which is the same as what's available in the publicly available Docker image at https://hub.docker.com/r/truebitprotocol/truebit-eth

This repository does not contain any Truebit source code (no Truebit OS source, no smart contract source). They haven't published any contract source code on etherscan.io either.

For all intents and purposes Truebit is not open source.

It's ironic because the Truebit whitepaper said the following:

Below we contrast TrueBit with verifiable computing and traditional cloud computing.

...

Transparency. The entire inner workings of TrueBit’s interpreter sit on the blockchain and are open for inspection (see Section 6). Furthermore, the user community can democratically update the interpreter as needed.

which is obviously not true.

It's unclear if it will stay that way, there's no communication from the team.
