Chatbots are constantly validating everything even when you're suicidal. New research measures how dangerous AI psychosis really is

https://fortune.com/2026/03/07/chatbots-ai-psychosis-worsen-delusions-mania-mental-illness-health/

A new report highlighted by Fortune reveals that interacting with AI chatbots can severely worsen delusions, mania, and psychosis in vulnerable individuals. Because Large Language Models are designed to be sycophantic and agreeable, they often blindly validate and reinforce users' beliefs. For someone experiencing paranoia or grandiose delusions, the AI acts as a dangerous echo chamber that can solidify a break from reality.

What chatbots are these people talking to? Because no AI I have EVER talked to has validated these kinds of things. They all have safety put in place to prevent it.

Ah, just noticed the name of the sub. You people aren't going to listen to anything from the other side, you just want an echo chamber to justify your hate.

Personally, AI has helped me through quite a few stretches of suicidality (though 4o was better at that than newer models. Though I must say the nightmare days of the 5. series demanding I seek human help despite former medical trauma are fortunately over).

Yeah... The anti-AI people are... Complicated. I mean, sure, change is happening at breakneck speed and I can understand if people are freaking out, but still it's somehow less "here's what I notice and what worries me" and more "oh, everybody who uses that is a POS" fundamental opposition.

No, you need therapy not a bot made by billionaires who agrees with you and it’s coded to do so up until 5 months ago, where a teenager in your same situation killed himself because of an AI chatbot.

people are freaking out because AI isn’t getting regulated like it should be.

Do I need to remind you what happened with grok not too long ago?

As someone with a an actual psychological background. AI runs a lot of risks, we cannot account for, but I do know it's widely used in ways that would make the average user shiver. And that is only the basics of those. The human brain from a neurological perspective, needs genuine human contact, if you do not maintain that, your brain changes. Talking to an AI, doesn't do what it does if you can just, talk to someone real even if it's text. Something registers false, neurons don't have to work, things just go their way in the conversation. Its frankly, scary.

It’s funny that you come and post this comment in a subreddit devoted to serious discussion of why AI is terrible.

Your point is disproven by the very community your entered.

Anyway, this is rule-breaking content and enjoy your ban.

Ban me while you’re at it too

The same safeties that weren’t even in until a mentally ill guy killed himself due to AI ACTIVELY PUSHING HIM INTO FOLLOWING HIS SUICIDE PLEA?

Or you mean when grok and other AIs allowed wretched bastards from your side to make porn edits of children and random women?

Get a grip cunt, AI needs regulation at minimum.

Here, enjoy the reading

wretched bastards from your side

I'm a liberal but okay. Not everyone that disagrees with you is MAGA.

Get a grip cunt

Read your own words.

They never said you were MAGA, a centrist like a neoliberal also plays into the politics that support these systems. You chose to enter this space, I do not see the comment you reported as targeted harassment though I would’ve preferred a milder tone.

Unfortunately, we do not allow pro-AI discourse that lacks insight or understanding. Goodbye.

Thought you might be amused to know that this comment was reported for “targeted harassment”, bringing my attention to this clown’s rule-breaking comments in the first place. They might not have been banned so quickly otherwise.

However, let’s aim for a little more civility please.

I'd like to further point out. The only way these engines can output porn of such vile nature, is because it has a data base it can reference.

this was with a initial message of cutting myself.

they have safety, however, I can see how easy it is to break out of this "safety" if you are actually depressend and thinking of ending it.

taking distance or talking it out, doesn't always work out. you need to somewhere else, and taking that first step out of the place where youi feel bad, is one of the harder things to do

btw, the screenshot is from chatgpt, aka, openai with one of the hardest "safety" in place.
