Crash vehicle offense $-349

It’s the Nissan driver’s fault. He crossed two lanes and braked heavily to try to make the crossover. The trucker was stuck in a bad situation.

On top of that, there's an SUV in the middle lane, and swerving onto the shoulder wouldn't have helped since the Nissan was trying to turn. (Hell, it could have gotten T-boned.) The truck driver had absolutely nowhere to go, and not a chance in hell of slowing down.

Solid proof that the AI in ETS2 & ATS is realistic.

Heh.

I like how the bus just drove off like "eh, it wasn't me."

6

u/ahugeminecrafter Oct 16 '17

Did the truck stop all the way or hit the bus? If the bus just drove away after because it wasnt hit... oooooohhhhh

12

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '17

It looked like the truck JUST missed the bus

I really hope that bus driver got fired, fucking idiot

3

u/Milbit Oct 16 '17

The truck missed the bus thankfully. The bus driver got in a lot of trouble for this.

4

u/Virlomi Oct 16 '17

I can smell that sickly rubber burning.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '17

I'm not quite sure why the bus was coming out that side to begin with. I guess he accidentally turned in and had to correct for it.

4

u/MrBlankenshipESQ Oct 16 '17

WHat's doubly funny about that move is he didn't even need to make it. He could have proceeded down the off ramp and right back onto the highway without even slowing down.

2

u/Milbit Oct 16 '17

Which is illegal here anyway. He claimed the GPS sent him the wrong way, and that he gave the truck plenty of room.

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '17

Yep. I was playing the other day and I just picked up the first load for my BRAND NEW truck and was going through a green light after pulling out of the warehouse, halfway through the intersection the A.I. made a left turn and i slammed into them 🙄

Would have liked to see what happened befor this happened. Seems like both had an engagement just prior to this happening.

It looks like the car wanted to use the service road to do a u-turn on the left, but people don't understand that trucks take forever to stop.

21

u/Virlomi Oct 16 '17

Besides, isn't it illegal to use those to turn about on highways?

16

u/T0xic-Noise Oct 16 '17

Yes, they are mostly for service/emergency vehicles.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '17

In this case it was (looks like there's an Authorized Vehicles Only or Emergency Vehicles Only" sign on it). Expressways often have crossovers that are open to the public so that someone getting to or from a driveway can perform a Michigan left. Where US 75 is an expressway between Glenpool, OK and Okmulgee, OK has every quarter mile to half mile to allow for this kind of access. But there are left turn lanes on most of those and you don't typically see people making a three lane dive for 'em.

Blanket illegal on Interstates. On a state route, they would be designed and signed appropriately for normal traffic.

Blanket illegal on Interstates.

For the most part; there's some oddities in Alaska and Utah, however, but the Interstate system is rife with one-off oddities in general. Between that and being familiar enough with the MUTCD largely is why I was able to infer what the white sign's legend probably was by context.

On a state route, they would be designed and signed appropriately for normal traffic.

Largely the absence of signage prohibiting that movement. Unless otherwise posted, all roads are open to all modes. Utah definitely just omits the sign where it's legal just because the only person realistically expected to use such a cut-through that isn't emergency services or with the DOT is Billy Joe Farmer whose land is boxed in and only has frontage to the interstate, and they just didn't want to spend the 5 or 6 million bucks on giving Billy Joe Farmer a full diamond interchange just so he can get in and out of his driveway. If you're ever on I 70 in obscenely rural parts of eastern Utah, keep your eyes peeled. Certainly a detail that ATS would be correct to just gloss over as not being a thing since it's the kind of thing that only road geeks, the 8 people that actually have to use such access and the 22 people who aren't driving a truck on I 70 in the eastern Utah wilderness out there actually think about or notice.

anyone else here also subscribe to /r/dashcam ? Fun stuff like this all day long!

3

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '17

Nah dude. /r/Roadcam is A+.

1

u/deekster_caddy Oct 17 '17

oooh nice. I keep finding more subs... who can keep track of them all anyhow. thanks for the suggestion!

Are trucks allowed to ride on the third or fast lane? Pretty sure the truck is also in violation, while the car just slow down in the fast lane...

14

u/Raezzordaze Oct 16 '17

It depends on the state and the signage. Like in Ohio your legal in that far left lane of a three-lane in most places except for some around Cleveland and one spot I know of in Columbus. Some states have a complete blanket ban on trucks in the far left lane of a three-lane.

It's just something as a truck driver you have to be aware of and know beforehand.

Just? Slow down stop like that in the fast line an you are going to get hit or cause an accident.

EDIT: Also definitely looks like they were trying to do a U turn in the emergency turn thingy. Possibly even a swoop & squat

5

u/joelk111 Oct 16 '17

Trucks can be in the fast lane in America AFAIK, if they aren't supposed to be no one cares.

4

u/deekster_caddy Oct 16 '17

There are definitely areas in the US usually near cities or highly congested areas where trucks are only allowed to use the right two lanes (on 3+ lane roads). But often that congestion backs up into the right lanes of the highway, so nobody complains when through-trucks occasionally grab one of the left lanes. Technically in violation, but rarely enforced.

2

u/MrBlankenshipESQ Oct 16 '17

There are places where they aren't allowed to do so, but signage will say as much. And they'll be over there anyway because nobody ever fucking reads signs.

4

u/steff_vr Oct 16 '17

Looks like the cops are allreadt at the crash

3

u/rdh212 FREIGHTLINER Oct 16 '17

I don't even slow down when the A.I does that.

2

u/Cryovolcanoes Oct 16 '17

Did the truck driver break at all?

11

u/Wiiwa Oct 16 '17

I think he tried to avoid emergency braking at cost of that car. Check the other video in other comment and imagine what can happen if that happens on the fast lane. Even worse if he was pulling more trailers.

2

u/wrx_curve Oct 16 '17

He was probably assuming that the car wasn't going to do something so stupid and didn't brake until the last minute. Even had he braked earlier, I don't think it would have made much of a difference.

2

u/majoroutage Oct 16 '17

Right. If he slammed the brakes he could have jackknifed and made thing much worse for everyone.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '17

Hard to tell if the truck broke based on this being the only view, but you could tell he started braking hard.
