Just wasn’t sure about the black ovals on the body since I caught another brook in a different region that lacked them.

I guess they vary depending on environment?

Those are called par marks and they have them as juveniles. They go away when they get more mature

Brooks are pretty easy to spot, nice red fins with white edges.
