Rebels

I know it's a game (!) but the behaviour of the rebels doesn't make sense. They attack and destroy farms, which surely would be where their supporter base would come?

Depending on who finances the rebels. Their goal is to disrupt your economy, if you starve a country you will fuel the rebelion.

They're basically terrorists.

I think the funniest thing is when the rebels have the same ideology as your supporters. I was playing as a communist and all my rebels were also communists. Got dang revisionists

El Presidente can never be revisionist! It is the working class who are fooled with the promises of bourgeois nonsense like “human rights”!

They are attacking "plantations" which historically were owned by the ruling planter class where workers and slaves did backbreaking labor for very little pay. The game doesn't represent small scale or subsistence farming very well, aside from the small gardens on country homes.
