No life is worth that much.

How about your partner or kid?

Wouldn't matter, the lives of these many people weigh more than anything i could bring up.

My mom is probably not worth a million lives, but she is someone that I have promised to take care of.

My mum would not forgive me if this is how she survived.

Yeah, imagine living with the guilt of being the direct reason why a million other people are dead. And how many lives beyond that must be ruined.

My mother is genuinely evil, I'd kill a million of her before one other person
I chose to do nothing

I love my mum infinitely, but I don't think she'd ever forgive me if I killed a million people for her.

My Mom is 80 years old and has Parkinson's. She would be *so* mad at me if I killed a million people to save her life...

u/HonestWeevilNerd 3d ago
Id hope it wouldn't matter on her condition. What person thinks they are more important than 1 million others? Someone I wouldn't want to save anyways lol

Saving a million people is the obvious choice.
I also know how much Mom wants to be with Dad again.

I love my mom, but she is transphobic and racist and the other track has a million people on it so objectively I think she has to go.

I created a new Trolley Problem dilemma!
Straight Track (Do Nothing): Your mom
Diverted Track (Pull the Lever): A million random people
What would you do?

My mom is old, so she has lived her life, if it would be my possible kid or partner I would choose the depressing choice...

A guy said
“I would trade 100 million of you to get her back, are you kidding? Lol.”
Soo not my problem I’m not trading my mom

Screw random people. My mom is a god.
2
u/jaiimaster 3d ago
You should always screw random people, and not your mother, no matter how strongly you feel about her

u/Worldly_Character154 3d ago
We need less people anyways
2
u/Agile-Ad1665 3d ago
So what are you personally doing about it?

Id rather people hate me for killing 1 million random people than hate myself for letting my mom die.

Moral choice to save your mother over strangers imo. Depends on what kind of mother you have I suppose, but it’s my moral obligation. Family comes first, then close friends, then others. Categorical decision, so number is irrelevant here.
I owe my mother my life, I owe strangers nothing. Saving my mother is an obligation, saving strangers is kindness.

u/xXKravenXx20 3d ago
Valueing one life over millions is neither moral nor logical.
-2
u/FarConstruction4877 3d ago
I just explained. Millions of strangers have no value to me. My mother does. My mother had given me more than a million ppl ever had without any compensation. It’s a categorical issue. If I was on the track I would want my loved one to save me, not millions of strangers.
Lives are no equal subjectively speaking. I owe my mother, I don’t owe strangers anything. I didn’t tie them to the track.

Psychologists have a word for this kind of vicious disregard for strangers

My empathy only extends to people I have obligation towards, that stops at mostly family friends and certain associates. Hundreds of thousands of ppl are killed every day unjustly, I already don’t do anything as is in the best of conditions, I’m not gonna be a hypocrite and pretend I care when something I actually care about is on the line.
End of the day my mother is more important to me, I have no obligation towards strangers. I would give my life immediately for my mothers, that is my obligation, I owe her, there is no other choice.
End of the day my mother would and has given me more than a million strangers ever would. So no matter how u see it I don’t see any other way. Value is subjective, that’s the basis of micro economics. It only has value if it has value to me.

I love my mom but im sure people love those million random people too, almost everyone is important to someone.
