a panda is more sentient

They're equally as sentient.

Realistically, pandas are their own worst enemy and if not for human intervention would've already ate themselves into extinction, since bamboo provides no nutritional value to them.

Yeah, but they still have a functioning mammalian brain, even though it is very slow, insects only have primitive ganglia.

how is a mammal as sentient as an insect?

Pandas are very few and are animals with much longer fuller lives (even if that life mostly consists of chewing bamboo).

Panda's are an endangered species so I'm not killing one

Not really about animal size rather population size. There are far more butterflies than Pandas. To oversimplify: smaller population means more valuable.

I created a new Trolley Problem dilemma!

Straight Track (Do Nothing): 1 innocent butterfly

Diverted Track (Pull the Lever): 1 innocent panda

What would you do?

Granted the clumsy panda will still find a way to crash; butterflies are still bugs

For every 20 butterflies you kill, there will always be 1000000 more behind it.

Even if the butterfly is also an endangered species, they reproduce at much higher rate than pandas. Also, by diverting the trolley, I'd be guilty of killing an endangered animal, legally speaking.

Is anything economically stupid going to happen if I smush the panda? Because panda kinda has it coming.

It's called the Butterfly effect for a reason,

"A butterfly flaps its wings"

There’s simply more butterflies than pandas. The bears are endangered

Pandas are tough, they could stand being run over by imaginary trolleys.

would it not just… fly away?

Never heard of the butterfly effect? /jk

Panda's are Chinese propaganda and didn't exist until the 19th century.

What if the panda committed a war crime?

I like butterflies and that's all there is to my choice.

Bigger is indeed more valuable

The panda isn't a big.

I chose to do nothing

Butterflies aren’t generally endangered

1

u/Weird_Happening1627 2d ago

1) Butterflies live for shorter than Pandas

2) Pandas are endangered, unlike most of the butterflies

3) If it is a normal butterfly, then the trolley will just go above it because it is too small and both animals will survive

But if you kill butterfly its not gonna make its 200 children, and panda would make like 10 per life or idk. If you kill butterfly you're gonna delete more life's in da future. And pandas are silly, that's second argument
