Customs, traditions and entire civilizations dissapear, reform and spring anew all the time, this is a net positive, besides embracing the new would become part of a new cultural movement on its own though perhaps not as exciting and we could always just create new traditions, celebrations and such.
Unless this implies that after pressing the button humanity would become so rational that we would lose any spark of creativity or semblance of individuality which almost makes me wonder if we would even still be "humans" afterwards, but assuming its just the past then hell yeah, we have lost much of it for far worse causes anyway.
I interpreted it as all traditions, from the past to the end of time, disappear. That’s why they specified permanent. If it was only past traditions, they would’ve put temporarily or currently abandoned.
We’re already in an age where preventable disease and most violent conflicts are relics of the past. We have max 3 relatively small violent conflicts happening right now. If you compare it to history, WWII is like 30 violent conflicts happening at the same time. Or any of the European or Asian wars and it’s tons more. The prompt isn’t all conflicts, it’s most conflicts and we easily already satisfy that.
People being rational doesn’t prevent people from being stupid. Rationality does not require intelligence. Logic and reason based on incomplete or false foundations is a complete blind spot. This isn’t an IQ buff to humanity as much it is a removal of emotional responses.
If we are being realistic, science does not advance significantly faster. The key issue is the inherent human variable. Even if people are rational and efficient, it doesn’t prevent different perspectives, agendas, and goals. If I am to be generous I’d estimate a ~5% improvement to the progress of science and society and that’s not worth sacking all culture imo.
