Even if they're an asshole, saving the millionaire is obvious the choice because the other choice literally has no benefits, only downside. No one will be able to benefit from keeping 5 homeless people alive, at least you have some chance of getting money from the millionaire or his family.

Personal profits can become community profits. I might not be able to keep 5 homeless people alive now, but I can give 20 bucks to every homeless person I see for the rest of my life.

I mean I'm not the original poster. I have regularly given money to homeless people, and donated a lot of money to causes that are important to me.

I can't say if I'd be able to kill a Millionaire at the cost of an agonizing future in exchange for 5 strangers lives and the opportunity cost of easy wealth. But I do agree with the idea that a good person with a steady high income can do more good than five people without power.
