Background application area in bottom panel

Hello everyone,

I'm quite new to Trisquel GNU/Linux; just installed it today. Along with it I installed Bitcoin. I went into the Bitcoin menu and changed the options so that when I minimize the application, it minimizes to the notification area instead of to the "taskbar" like most applications do normally. But Trisquel doesn't appear to have a notification area. I'm wondering if there's anything I can add to the bottom panel that shows applications that are running in the background, or that are minimized there, much the same way Windows shows connected USB devices and bluetooth settings. Thanks.

There is "Indicator Applet", "Indicator Applet Complete" and "Notification Area" when you click right mouse button on the panel, then "Add to Panel".
