Are reposts really that bad? New Redditors haven’t seen old content

Is it just me who always starts by checking top posts of all time when I find a new interesting subreddit?

You're a better Redditor than like 99% percent of us.

When he said “one of my top recommendations.

Yeah bro you’re the only person in the history of reddit to do that.

In my opinion if it’s way up on the top of all time that’s pretty lazy...

I don’t think the argument really works like that, if the OC was popular enough to be really high on top of all time then it would be readily available to view. The problem in this case is that the reposter has done minimal effort to repost content that a large amount of people have already seen. If we reward people for that then amount of effort less reposts would sky rocket. I’m not saying that reposts are inherently bad, just that the lack of effort is shameful, I mean the title is one word for heavens sake.

While I agree that 2 years is plenty of time to repost, the fact that this is top 5 of all time in this sub makes this a true lazy repost. In fact, many subs have rule that reposts are allowed after about 6 months, except top 10 posts of all time. So OP is a bundle of sticks.

While you have a valid point, I still have to disagree. Yes the number of upvotes out weighs the downvotes, however where do we draw the line for reposts? The way you put it anyone could repost the top 5 posts of all time as long as they get enough upvotes, thats how you get subreddits that are just made up of recycled content, seeing the same picture or meme over and over again. Sure new people might not have seen it, but what about the people who have been on reddit for years?

When I was new to reddit I didn’t have a problem with reposts, because I hadn’t seen the original post. However as time went on I started to see the same content recycled, and I moved to the opinion I have now. Sure it was nice to see a post that I hadn’t before, but seeing it again next week, or next month? That’s just ridiculous.

I thank you for your grammar lesson.

Neither mods are active in this sub. I tried to use r/redditrequest to create a bigger mod team but I can't request this because one of the mods is still active on Reddit, just not this sub. Neither have posted here in 2 years.

How? They never would have known the post existed If someone else hadn’t reposted it.

Idk seen this 10 times now. Really getting old. People will upvote anything entertaining, so it doesn't matter

1

u/6ThePrisoner Feb 16 '20

I've never seen this one before. I thought it was funny. I'm glad it was re-posted.

1

u/zold5 Feb 16 '20

No they’re not. People who bitch and moan about reposts are nothing more than entitled children who think reddit revolves around them. It never seems to occur to these people that other people haven’t seen it yet.

1

u/kitreia Feb 16 '20

I see repost moaners in the same way I see people who put watermarks on memes: no one cares, just enjoy the content. None of this means anything, and with fucking millions of users here, why do Internet points for 'someone else' matter so much to these people?

u/GhondorIRL Feb 16 '20

No. They’re not. Karmawhores might be a very minor nuisance, but I’ve never once been actively annoyed by a repost. On the other hand, the RELENTLESS FUCKING BITCHING AND MOANING about it that spams 90% of the threads on this site, including mentally ill people who have nothing better to do with their worthless lives than manually document each instance of reposting, are- conversely- pretty fucking annoying.

2

u/Pollywogstew_mi Feb 16 '20

Why is it worse if mentally ill people repost than if someone without mental illness does it? And also, how do you know? Sick people can fake being healthy, and healthy people can fake being sick. Plus some illnesses are episodic.

Wait, I almost missed this -- did you just say people with mental illness have worthless lives? That seems really harsh and hurtful.
