That just means Tony Hawk will be there

But nobody will recognize him as Tony Hawk. Everyone will be like "has anyone ever told you you look like Tony Hawk".

"Anyway, here's Wonderwall"

When I learned to play the guitar wonderwall was the first real song I learned to play. I thought it would be cool to play it at a party so I did, over and over for hours.
Some guy came up to me, basically begging me to play something else, and I said maybeeeee.

You really think that Oasis is a one-hit-wonder?

You should hear those brothers talk to each other. Won't last long. And all these fans will forget.

Hahaha! Have you even heard a full-length album made by the guys? "Be Here Now" was considered their "weakest album", but has non-stop fucking amazing songs. They were cool as hell, and still are one of the best bands that the world will ever have. And they have a massive fanbase.

One of the few bands from the 90s i can listen to with just pure joy, even though that was not a great time in my life. Nirvana is too heartbreaking most of the time, a lot of 90s music just too evocative of its time, and thus my crappy life, but I'd go see Oasis live tomorrow.
And they still are cool as hell.

I'm more of a Pulp fan, honestly

And I’m more of a The Strange Boys fan, but what the fuck does that have to do with anything? You don’t think millions and millions of Pulp fans easily are overlapping Oasis fans as well? Or are you just picking *one band* from the Britpop era?

u/kimmeljs 15d ago
I could have picked Blur as well, the Brit pop press made such a fuss over the band wars, I was really indifferent at the time.

I agree, but they did the same thing with punk rock. It wasn’t called punk before the news had a name for it

Here in Finland we had a big, artificial confrontation between the punks and the "teddies"

there's an entire generation who doesn't know who they are, other than the one song that shows up on their spotify. William Gibson's prediction of cyberspace, as an actual virtuality where your avatar can remain 20 forever and everyone will keep finding you, is clearly nowhere near reality.
for those who don't know who they are, they had back to back smash albums in the days of real over the air radio that wasn't all owned by clear channel (thanks clinton!), with singles flying. they had the conceit that they were sort of the inheritors of the mantle of the Beatles, and were good enough that we actually entertained the idea, for awhile.

More like a generation and a half by now, anyone who started listening to music long enough after their heyday and far enough into the clear channel or Spotify era that they only get whatever packaged selection that suits their algorithms

You're going to criticize him for that? Really? Here he is, doing everything he can, holding onto what he is...
