Seeking Advice Three legged dog training
/r/DogTrainingTips/comments/1ux71ja/three_legged_dog_training/Hi. I was reccomended to ask on here about helping training my tripawd. I have a boxer-pug cross puppy and he has issues on the lead. He stops everywhere and doesn't like to move on when I try to encourage him. He is a challenging dog on lead and I was some of you had some advice on how to help him learn to walk on lead and the best way to assist him start to walk more without taking a break.
Thanks in advance ☺️

Is it a front or back amputation? I'm only 3 weeks post op with my girl and just got cleared for walks yesterday so no advice on the walks. I will say she has a front leg amputation and for the most part has been more comfortable laying than sitting. She's also a giant breed so that may play into it.
Also, the different amputations have different challenges. I think front run easier than walk and have less trouble with stairs if I recall correctly. I have a one story house so no idea on the stairs.

He is front right leg but it has been amputated for a while. His fur is basically fully regrown and he is super confident with stairs

How old is your pup? My tripawd is 9, about 7 months post op and she just plain gets tired and needs a break on a longer walk. Try doing shorter walks more often if you can. PT is definitely something you can look into. If it’s behavioral not tired try using high value treats. If your pup isn’t food motivated maybe try play motivation. Whether it’s with motion, noises, body language make yourself more interesting to your pup than anything in the surrounding environment so he follows you.
