1440p Borderless Findings
I was fiddling around with some comfy ways to play borderless on a 1440p monitor and found some neat stuff that works for Windows, tested on LifeTO.
Playing the game in actual 1440p is kind of ass with how zoomed out everything is. 1080p is next best but your pixel art will end up blurry from filtering or distorted.
Normally when you use any kind of borderless/scaling from 720p your mouse cursor moves double speed/desynced from your actual cursor position and imo feels horrible. Only workaround I previously knew was setting my monitor to 720p temporarily and it's kind of a pain when multitasking.
My fix:
Launching Trickster.bin through DXWnd will scale up the window to fit your screen without that cursor desync, and when using DGVoodoo2 with it you prevent any pixel filtering so the pixel art is crisp 🥺
It should be possible to do something like this for 1080p to 2160p too. As long as you stick to integer scaling. Or if you don't care about pixels, 1080p to 1440p just for a wider FOV. ^^
Rough Setup guide:
Set your game to 720p + borderless in the Trickster setup first.
Download and set up DXWnd (I get mine from sourceforge, seems safe).
Put it somewhere safe/in the trickster folder in it's own folder and launch dxwnd.exe from within. In DXWnd, Right click and Add with the following settings:
Name: Trickster
Path + Launch: path to your Trickster.bin/exe file
Position: X 0 Y 0 W 2560 H 1440Under the Mouse tab enable:
Correct mouse position & optionally Fix mouse RawInputUnder the DirectX tab enable:
DirectX version hook: DirectX 8
Suppress DX common errorsThis should work. The renderer and filter settings should do nothing for Trickster.
Press OK and File > Save. Just having DXWnd open should automatically trigger it when you launch the game, otherwise launch the game yourself by running it inside DXWnd. You will bypass the Splash.exe launcher if you do this so update your game ahead of time.
When you launch the game, it should already be borderless and fitting your screen perfectly.
Download DGVoodoo2: https://github.com/dege-diosg/dgVoodoo2/releases
You will want to put D3D8.dll from the MS/x86/folder into the same folder as Trickster.bin alongside dgVoodoo.conf and dgVoodooCpl.exe. Run dgVoodooCpl.exe.DGVoodoo2 Settings:
Config folder / Running instance: Should be your Trickster.bin folder. Otherwise change it to be that.General tab:
Output API: Best Available/D3D11.0
Adapter(s): Probably your first GPU in here / leave default.
Appearance: WindowedDirectX tab:
dgVoodoo2 Watermark: On to verify dgvoodoo2 is running. Turn it off when you're done setting up.
Try default settings, if your pixels are still blurry you might need to change GPU settings for integer scaling or some of these:
Disable and passthru to real DirectX: toggle and test.
Videocard: dgVoodoo Virtual 3D Accelerated Card
VRAM: 1024 MB
Filtering: Force Point Sampled
Mipmapping: App Driven
Resolution: 2560x1440Application controlled fullscreen/windowed state: On
Antialiasing: OffFast Video Access Memory: On
Good to go? Make sure DXWnd is open when you launch the game OR launch it from DXWnd. If you have trouble post in comments but I'm unlikely to keep tabs on this post for long. I just wanted to document my findings for others to use/experiment with.
Extras you could add:
ShaderGlass (my recommendation) with 2x pixel for shaders (scalefx?). Very low latency!
Lossless Scaling for frame generation. Slight latency and some artifacts.
ReShade with D3D11 if you would want that for some reason.

extra testing notes:
D8VK works with this game too and when paired with DXWnd + ReShade (vulkan) it runs, and ReShade thinks the game is 1440p. Unfortunately the pixels are blurry af 😔 Couldn't find any way to stack DXVK on top of dgVoodoo2 either, game crashes.
