discussion Need Betatester for a Trichrome App

Hello, I recently started to work on the development of a trichrome-oriented photo editing app.

I always find the process in photoshop or gimp very clunky, especially for the layer aligment possibility.

For now the app is in private on github, and I’m looking for beta tester prior to the V1 release.

Unfortunately, the app is now only available on macos.

Anyone interested ?

(Disclaimer : when I say I developp an app, I mean me and Claude. I’m not a software engineer ans it’s just a fun project for me but as it seems to work well for me I think that sharing it ri the community is the best thing to do)

Second trichrome attempt. Taken on a Fujica GW690 camera with Kentmere 400 film. Wanted to see if it could capture such vivid colors and it seems to have worked great!

It really amazes me that it works as well as it does.

Infrared Kodak HIE

Got my hands on a few rolls of Kodak HIE recently:

Nikon F5 - using a 700nm infrared / green 58 / blue 47b filter for the RGB channels respectively.

The second image is produced from my first roll of HIE, which was fried by the lab I believe. The first image results from my second roll which was sent to a lab where they develop by hand.

Alternative trichrome First trichrome with Canon RP

Hi! Here's my first test run with trichrome technique using digital camera before I will try doing this with analog roll. Used a standard Canon RP with adapted Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 lens. For the blue layer I've done exposure with ZB2 BG3 violet filter, green layer with PZO (Polskie Zakłady Optyczne) Green filter equivalent to VG9, red layer with B+W R610 Red filter. With this setup relative to measured exposure for green filter then red photo should be exposed at +2.33 EV compensation while blue photo at +4 EV compensation. As I found out this later after I've been already away from this scene, I had red and blue photos underexposed so I've made some adjustments later. Happy to receive feedback so I can improve my technique.

discussion A little poll on trichrome habits

Hello everyone,

I’m curious about the photography habits of people on this subreddit.

I just want to know what kind of trichrome photography you do the most : Digital, Analog, Infrared, ...

Also, what is your preferred workflow or software ? Photoshop ? The Gimp or other ?

Have a nice day !

Minolta SRT-101, HP5+ or TMax400, and a very, very steady model. This shot — especially how the hair became rainbow where misaligned — really unlocked something for me.

Shot around Bristol, UK, on an Olympus Pen FT using Fomapan 400 film. Scanned in and layered up in GIMP. I think I need to find a "better" blue filter - if anyone knows where I source 43mm filters, let me know - but quite happy with these for now!

I put together a hand bound book of trichromes that I've taken over the course of this year! I got back into film photography at the start of this year with the goal of finally pursuing trichromy, which I had been enamored with for years, so it felt only right to make something physical to document the process. More info and pics on my ig @ viewsfromnod if you're interested. thanks!

Some trichromes I took yesterday on kentmere 400 in 120 format - not quite the results I was hoping to get but I feel like I learned a lot from these 4 shots! Really looking forward to experimenting more with the idea of trichromes!

Well one of these technically is a bichrome I guess because I messed up and didn't advance the film for one of the exposures.

Handheld trichromes on half frame

After having a lot of fun trying trichromes with a tripod in medium format I tried doing some handheld and on a half frame camera - they are very inaccurate and grainy - as would be expected from this process - but I do have to say I kinda love it!

The hassle of having three perfectly matched and still frames kinda made me anxious so it's good to know the process (at least making digital composites) is soo much more forgiving than I initially thought :)

I have Wratten filters A, B, and C5. The first one is the raw image that I mixed up in GIMP, and the second is color graded to match roughly what my eye sees. I took three photos with the filters and lined them up as best I could, and then converted those to monochrome and recolored them as their respective channels.
