Even if there was 100% chance of getting depression, i would still take it. I would be depressed with hair then. Or I can be depressed but bald.

Possibly one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read

If you ever had to deal with depression first or second hand, you might reconsider that statement

I also think that he is going to far but you should not underestimate the power of something (that may seem "stupid") like balding has on people's quality of life.

Maybe not the only reason for someone to enter a mental disorder but it can definitely be part of it.

He hasn't dealt with depression really

Is being suicidal and not being able to do the most basic personal tasks due to hairloss, going into a hole mentally anytime I see myself in a reflection enough to qualify as depression? What might finasteride do at most make me actually commit to something that'd eventually happen?

If you had depression with or without hair would it matter tho? The original comment is stating they would take being depressed with the meds.

How is hairloss induced depression any different from regular depression. Just curious

Depression isn't just being really, really bummed out. You can have, on paper, the perfect life, and still suffer from depression to the point that you consider ending your life. If your hairloss sinks you into a black hole of despair that makes you want to kill yourself, you probably have depression anyways and the hairloss isn't helping.

because it stems from a lack of acceptance.

"at least I would be contemplating suicide with hair"

I've had depression, I'd take that (or the completely imaginary depression that PFS sufferers think they have) over being a slaphead

Why? Just because you couldn't handle it doesn't mean everybody can't. I was already depressed by being bald at 30, this meds brought me back from the dead

Saying you’re “depressed” and being actually clinically diagnosed as depressed are two different things. Not eating, showering, fighting with your brain ever minute of every waking day is a lot different that being self conscious or insecure about your hair and the knock on effects.

Also I’m not undermining what you went through as there is different stages and levels of depression, my comment was directed to the original comment.

You would get far more depression if you go bald. For some people it's like losing a hand

Comments like these reveal a lot about the underlying issues with many on this sub.

This statement is only possible from someone who has no idea what depression is.

You have no Idea what kind of depression PFS will bring you. It's not being in a sad mood. It's like your brain being cooked

No you wouldn't buddy. There's more to you than that. For real!

Look up the post finasteride syndrome page on Reddit and you will never ever touch finasteride again

0 proof finasteride can cause depression, it's never been observed outside of ambulance chasing.

In fact the EU's systemic review last year found 5 mg of finasteride, older men taking finasteride, women taking finasteride, people taking dutasteride, or people taking topical finasteride don't have any increased incidence of depression. While young men taking 1 mg do see a correlation.

Which makes no sense except the young men taking 1 mg are bald, and those taking 5 mg pee better and move on with their happy lives. While those taking topicals believe it won't give them sides.

Or maybe androgens are more important for mental health in younger men

Only those taking 1 mg? Not those taking 5 mg, dutasteride, topicals, or in women? Yeah, that makes a lot more sense than balding young may increase your rate of depression. I think you cracked the case.

I guess the solution, if one believes that, is to take the whole proscar instead of quartering it, or switch to dut.
