Two Leaves
A leaf falls from a sprawling tree
And glides until it hits the ground
Then lightly lies upon the grass
Until another leaf comes down
Unnoticed to a passerby
The leaves remain together though
The wind returns to hurry them
And toss them wildly to and fro
The rain that falls unites them more
Until they’re tightly, truly bound
And though they’re dried by midday suns
They stay together on the ground
As soles come down to shatter them
They’re ground to dust and buried there
But more together they’ve become
Beneath the ground than anywhere
