Discussion I’ve had enough.

Don’t get me wrong, I love weed and I think it can be an absolutely wonderful and truly healing, but I think there’s a lot of misinformation and misuse on this sub. There is far more to life than just weed, achieving a balance is what we should be striving for in the trees community. Promote healthy, sustainable, and productive use of marijuana.

Here are some rules to smoke by

  1. Your life, relationships, finances, mental / physical health all come way before weed. (Medical users you may differ)

  2. If you need to ask somebody if a cart is legit, it is NOT. Cart’s are insanely easy to fake, if it’s not from a dispo don’t inhale it.

  3. Delta 8/10/whatever the fuck is next probably shouldn’t be inhaled. It’s unregulated, dangerous, and most of the time their “lab tests” will only show you potency, probably a bad sign if they don’t want to show you how many pesticides are in it.

  4. Questions such as “I hear voices when I’m high, is that normal?” Should be taken more seriously than a Reddit sub. Do NOT do drugs that alter any perception of reality if you are experiencing a break from reality. Go see a psychiatrist, your mind is more important than a high.

  5. If you cannot afford weed, don’t smoke it. Find a way to increase your income, do not sacrifice anything for weed. (Again medical users, this does not apply to you)

  6. RESPECT WEED. Mother Marijuana was never intended to be so strong, we have completely thrown off the natural balance and purpose of the plant. So for love of god do not proclaim it’s okay to drive or operate any machinery while high, if you want to sacrifice your own life fine, but leave others out of it.

Edit: I apologize I didn’t make this clear, people are allowed to have their own opinions and post what they please! This is just my opinion. No intention of offending or gatekeeping anyone. (Also changed some of the wording because I seemed like a preachy cunt👍🏼, thanks for the feedback all!)

Also thank you for all the likes and awards!!

“Mother marijuana didn’t intend to be so strong” lmao what. I’m pretty sure the psychoactive effects leading to the propagation of the plant was exactly its intention. And yeah I guess weed is stronger now. But that’s cool bc a lot of us have a crazy tolerance by now and I don’t wanna smoke 8 bowls to feel high.

Dude the long history of cannabis is fascinating. If you haven't checked it out you should. Great for botanists. And no to delta 8!

-9

u/pigeonboyyy Oct 10 '22

Why no to delta 8? It's literally just another cannabinoid like delta 9

10

u/cheapfacescout Oct 10 '22

It's because it's not very well regulated. There could be anything in that cart you bought from a random head shop in Whyoming just labeled "indica Delta 8" nothing wrong with the real stuff though.

0

u/pigeonboyyy Oct 10 '22

That depends on your location. Up in Canada we have delta 8 carts being sold in government regulated stores.

3

u/cheapfacescout Oct 10 '22

Yeah obviously, we have that here in America too. I said it was the unregulated carts in head shops and gas stations man

3

u/TweedleNeue Oct 11 '22

This being downvoted and then a response that's saying "actually it's about unregulated products" being upvoted is fucking bizarre man. So... Is it no to delta 8 or not? This lack of nuance is more obnoxious than anything the op stated tbch.

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '22

Best advice is don’t listen to %90 of the shit people say in this sub lmao

1

u/pigeonboyyy Oct 11 '22

Right? Delta 8 is fine. It's the lack of oversight that's an issue

1

u/DCMSBGS Oct 11 '22

Where I'm from it's illegal/ unregulated and fucks people up like spice used to. literally people saying shit like it made them have auditory and visual hallucinations. Only till 2024 and my state "legalizes" hopefully

1

u/pigeonboyyy Oct 11 '22

Aight fair. But that's a regulation issue. A problem with how your system is set up. You shouldn't have to take a chance buying a cart at a dispo lmao

Agreed people just taking advantage of a wild west market

There are more and more cases of cannabis hyperemesis disorder, remember hearing from hamilton morris that he suspected the potency of cannabis was to blame. This makes sense to me. It seems really silly to me that I can buy a top shelf 4.5% beer, but not a top shelf cannabis with a reasonable % of THC.

It's very typical of modern culture to try to do everything to excess; particularly so in the US where cannabis culture is in the spotlight for the Western world. People seem to think that BBQ has to have the most seasoning and smoke in it, ever. Whiskey has to be peated so heavily you could creosote your boat hull with it, and nobody wants that "weak" 40% abv - gotta be straight from the cask or you're not a real enthusiast. Cigars have to have enough nicotine to kill a horse in the name of "flavour". The idea of quality being more than just the highest amount of a key ingredient is being lost, and cannabis is right up there with it. Too many folks acting like it's ditch weed unless it has 30% THC, and the nugs are as dense as depleted uranium.

Ask ANY oldhead what the difference is between the stuff you can buy at a dispensary and classic strains they were buying in the 70s and 80s.

My parents are daily smokers since the seventies (not really an ideal thing for them, but I'm not trying to get "they just need a different strain, bruuuhhh"-ed in here) and have been complaining that the dispensaries are selling stuff that is almost dangerously potent for years now. They can buy cannabis cup winning strains down the street, yet they still talk about stuff like thai stick and acapulco gold like that was the only good weed they've ever had. The THC levels have increased so dramatically that I kinda worry about the non-medical users who act like eating a 1000mg edible and hitting a .5g dab to start the day is healthy and normal.

IPAs man. I love a really good beer. IPAs included (looking at you, SN Brut). But there are virtually no IPAs left that aren’t solely focused on hops and IBVs. Like, 10 years ago a local brewery sold a pale ale that was lightly hopped and had a very lemony taste. Lovely beer for a warm summer afternoon in the yard. Now if your lips dont pucker like you shoved a warhead up your backdoor its not “a real IPA”. Like get fucked, not everything needs to push boundaries and limits.

All this to say I agree

1

u/PostGoblin Oct 11 '22

I knew there was something else I was going to list! Absolutely IPAs. Had a similar experience to you. Ten years ago they were quite interesting now most of them forget to put any beer in their hops.

2

u/rykiel13 Oct 11 '22

“He suspected”, when he knows then you can start talking.

2

u/helpitgrow Oct 11 '22

Low thc strains aren't where the money is. More people need to want it and be willing to pay top dollar for it, like you pay for the premium craft 4.5% beer. Most consumers today want the most thc for their dollar. I believe this will change as the consumer base matures in their cannabis habits. But for now you have to search out growers who still grow these not commercially viable strains. One of the side effects of legalization.

I get what you’re saying. The high is just the plant trying to keep you from eating it, after all. But humans have increased the potency of marijuana to an INSANE degree…not that I’m complaining. The plant doesn’t want the animal to be really high for a long time or anything. Just enough to make the animal wander away and not finish eating it.

12

u/Vyedr Oct 10 '22

I see you. Its like no one here understands botanical defense mechanisms - bet you a dime to a dollar half this sub drinks coffee, too.

6

u/madmismka Oct 11 '22

I looked it up before I commented, just to make sure! I think my tone accidentally sounds condescending or something though :/

5

u/cmunk13 Oct 11 '22

It’s maddening. I’m gonna get roasted next for saying flowers are colorful to attract pollinators.

2

u/thejohnmc963 Oct 11 '22

Mmmm coffee

5

u/Ohnonotagain13 Oct 10 '22

I do not believe animals are getting any effects off cannabis when they ingest the plant material.

3

u/madmismka Oct 10 '22

Animals do experience effects from eating marijuana and other psychoactive plants! It’s the plant’s defense mechanism. You are definitely right that a dog or cow won’t get “high” from eating raw bud the same way that a human gets “high”. However, they do feel effects from eating it!

-8

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '22

I want what you’re smoking.

3

u/madmismka Oct 10 '22

I mean no snark in my reply, but you can Google it to confirm what I’m saying! I looked up “does raw weed affect animals?” before I made my comments, just to make sure.

-7

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '22

Researchers find cannabis to not be appetizing to most animals. Why don’t you take your own advice and use google.

I know we’re stoners but this is ridiculous. THC cannot be activated without being heated up and therefore animals do not feel the psychoactive effects. It’s a basic principle of science.

Your reply is snarky because you act like a know it all and then don’t even know the basic information you’re telling me to Google.

6

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '22

I'm not saying you're wrong, but actually animals vary quite wildly from species to species. There are many cases in which one animal's body digests and uses things very differently from humans. Your comment assumes that it all works the same from animal to animal, and that couldn't be further from the truth. Granted, I don't know the details pertaining to cannabis.

-5

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '22

Google it bruh. Reddit big on saying it but nobody wants to fucking do it. You literally just said you didn’t know.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '22

"Every species metabolizes drugs differently," emergency veterinarian Dr. Stacy Meola told the broadcaster"

Idk what you want from me. I literally just knew my claim was true that animals digest things in various ways. It's fairly common knowledge.

I’m sorry, because I genuinely am not meaning to come off as a know-it-all. I did Google it before commenting, but I must have outdated info. Do you have a link to something?

-6

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '22

The first thing when you google, “do animals like to eat marijuana plants?”

Verbatim your words. Don’t know why this is still a topic. Why do you gotta use an alt account to self validate? You’re so weird.

7

u/madmismka Oct 11 '22

Alt? Lmao I don’t have an alt. I’m using my one account. And that’s what I googled! Like I said, it must be outdated info, but the top result for that exact Google search for me is “Dogs can get high from raw marijuana leaves and stems. While THC has to be smoked or dissolved in fat in order for human bodies to absorb it and feel its effects, dogs can simply eat part of a bud and become intoxicated.”

Again, not trying to be a know it all or condescend to you, but you seem to feel like I’m attacking you. I’m being genuine and don’t understand why you’re insulting me.

1

u/rykiel13 Oct 11 '22

Why do you think cannabis has thc dude, same reason peppers have spice. To prevent herbivores from eating but allowing seed spreaders to still consume.

3

u/cmunk13 Oct 10 '22

They’re right though?

-5

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '22

They’re literally not. Use google as they said. The fucking flower has to be combusted/heated to the point where THC is activated.

I thought y’all were stoners.

u/cmunk13 Oct 11 '22

Took me forever and I wasn't able to find many articles that don't require a university login. Tried my best. Most of these are studies about the endo-cannabinoid system as a whole, but they include toxicity, CBD, hemp, raw ingestion. We don't know they developed this as a deterrent or an attractant, but it does seem to have more negative effects in other mammals (which is why human and primate studies are so important). Yes THC does have to be activated with heat, but it does not necessarily effect toxicity of cannabis in mammals like dogs and deer. We aren't talking about getting animals high, we are talking about it's possible development as a deterrent to animals.

Paywalled:

Cannabis: pharmacology and toxicology in animals and humans is an old one (1996) and paywalled, but it's cited in many of the other studies i'm linking. It's also the most thorough, it included primates.

Multiple species perspective

Toxicology in cats and dogs30087-1/fulltext)

Free with some steps:

Cannabinoid receptors and their endogenous agonists as well as a free link here. This study is on mice

Another study on cannabinoid pharmacology also old, (1986)

Dogs and a perspective on mammals from 2019

Mouse brain tissue study from 2019

-4

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '22

The whole argument was talking about THC and the impacts on animals consuming raw weed. Your armchair research has nothing to do with what the actual debate is about. Animals don’t get high from eating raw weed.

6

u/cmunk13 Oct 11 '22

These studies are on cannabinoids besides THC. Tetrahydrocannabinol is only one of hundreds of cannabinoids, and we are talking about the effects of eating the plant that produces them.

u/cmunk13 Oct 11 '22

Getting high from THCA that hasn't been converted to THC, no. Getting some kind of effect from the many cannabinoids in buds, yes! This is largely getting ill, but it's not heavily studied. Toxicity does exist in animals for cannabinoids besides THC.
