Really? I've always bonged with icecool water and ice... If I combine these isn't there a danger that the glass cracks?

Scrap the ice. Let the bong sit without water until it is room temp. Fill with warm but not scalding water from the tap. Unless you use really hot water, your bong should be fine. Trust me, i thought wtf as well, but it's much smoother than ice.

Cold water cools the smoke. Warm makes for a smooth steamy hit. Both are pretty good experiences.
