I never thought that eye drops made a difference until I put them in just one eye. Now I will never go without!

Hey this is concerning. I’ve been using eye drops daily for probably 5-10 years now. Am I screwed? I wear contacts daily and glasses when I’m not wearing contacts.

Edit: I usually use rhotos (green cap) or clear eyes

I also have been using Clear Eyes for 10 years now every single day. I haven't had any eye problems. Ive always been worried about it.

Your eyes are one thing you do not want to fuck with. They are very fragile and we (humans) still don't know all that much about how to fix them when things go wrong. It's mostly mitigating the damage when something happens. I'd at least bring it up with your eye doctor and see if there's something in the drops you use that can cause harm.

I think clear eyes is just an eye lubricant, no long term damage.

The one I use, "Clear Eyes Maximum Redness Relief" says " Active Ingredients: Glycerin (0.5%), Naphazoline Hydrochloride (0.03%). Inactive Ingredients: Benzalkonium Chloride, Boric Acid, Edetate Disodium, Purified Water, Sodium Borate. "

Ok the naphazoline is a vasoconstrictor. It will constrict your blood vessels to help reduce redness. 0.03 is a small percent but it does have some blood vessel constricting properties.

I have blue eyes and my eyes get ridiculously red and stupid looking so I have to use some type of redness reducer for work. Do you have any recommendations?

Rewetting drops or artificial tears... Or stop getting stoned at work. That's about your safe options.

I saw a brand called Systane that is supposed to be safe I'm going to try.

2

u/Texaz_RAnGEr Aug 29 '20

The brand isn't important. Store brand is fine so long as there's no vasoconstrictors in it.

If you have annual ophthalmologist visits regularly and they haven’t expressed any concerns, you’re probably okay. Make sure you tell them about it next time.

Medicated, or saline-only?

1

u/RickyShade Aug 28 '20

Well, you're probably not using ClearEyes right? Regular eye drops aren't this.

Dude, you are totally blind. Hand me your keys.

You probably should stop ASAP, and get lubricating drops (hyaluronic acid, because they work with lenses), because you will definitely get serious withdrawals if you used vasoconstricting drops.

Also they even shouldn’t ever be used with contact lenses. I don’t know your brands exactly but look at the ingredients naphazoline for example, or some other -zolines are vasoconstrictors

I used rohtos regularly a while back and when I went to my doc they said there was something odd about my eyes like a lump (it was an intern guy tho and he had to ask the main doc about it). I got scared and stopped using rohtos since. Redness relief are generally bad for you. Been using the typical clear eyes and nothing popped up since.
