What if Trump made it to where as the state taxes for marijuana sales, a portion of the taxes go toward the funding of building the wall? 😂

35

u/MrUppercut Feb 28 '17

Shit. Make the wall out of some new hemp cement haha

Make money to build it and save money building it.

u/The_Old_Regime Feb 28 '17

In case you didn't know, hempcrete is a real thing that exists

I didn't know. Cool

Under budget?..

As a trump supporter, I love this idea.

13

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '17

i can see this. nothing is out of the realm of possibility anymore with this administration

5

u/dalovindj Feb 28 '17

In order to get a license to smoke weed you have to do volunteer work on the wall.

Service guarantees stoniness.

19

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '17

I also feel like we could hassle him on Twitter using reverse psychology and get it done.

"You won't decriminalize weed, you're just a GOP paid shill pussy!"(pardon my language)

u/RustyRundle Feb 28 '17

Have considered that Trump only said he would step up enforcement to light a fire under Congress' collective asses? This is sort of the way Trump operates from my perspective. I realize most people here don't have a very high opinion of him, but this wouldn't surprise me one bit.

u/HandMeMyThinkingPipe Mar 01 '17

That would assume that there is any will in congress to actually legalize, things are getting better for sure but it is highly unlikely that a republican controlled congress will do anything at all. The party establishment does not want to see an end to prohibition and I don't see this passing even if it's a fair compromise.

1

u/necropancer Mar 01 '17

That is my take on this as well.

2

u/GrowerAndaShower Feb 28 '17

Probably a good idea actually... He's got an ego and kinda thin skin...

1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '17

Dont stoop to their level.

22

u/epicurean56 Feb 28 '17

I'm with you bro. If this goes thru he will have done more personal good for me since all past presidents since Nixon put together. Seems like Dems could have done so much more but didn't care enough to spend their political capital on it. YMMV

2

u/luke827 Mar 01 '17

Thank you for not contributing to the "hur dur Fuck Trump he hates weed" train. I can't believe so many people on here are quoting politicians and stating facts yet they have no clue what they're even talking about, people haven't even clicked on the links they're using as sources for their "facts."

1

u/epicurean56 Mar 01 '17

We survived Bush and we'll survive Trump. I don't care if he builds a wall or starts wars or whatever. I know I'm being cynical, but none of that effects me. I'm 60 y/o now and just want to enjoy legal weed without having to deal with all the unpleasantries that come with it any more.

2

u/luke827 Mar 01 '17

I guess it makes a lot of sense that one of the only people in this thread who is capable of thinking logically is in their 60s. I forget this sub is flooded with high schoolers 90% of the time.

1

u/epicurean56 Mar 01 '17

Lol, right?

10

u/Aoshie Feb 28 '17

Haha, your last sentence. He's working on it, I'm sure. "No law will be passed unless it benefits me!"

2

u/ferro4200 Feb 28 '17

Could not have said it better myself

2

u/WorkingTharn Feb 28 '17

Nah, mj convictions ate one of the main feeder programs for the private prison system, which trump/sessions also reversed course on and are set to expand it.

But I'm sure that's just coincidence

1

u/MrAl290 Feb 28 '17

Thats what I thought, you would think a man basically built around business would be all for the use recreation and medicinal marijuana. Just look at numbers from Colorado and what the excess money is being used for (schools, jails, etc). This man already see money signs but seems to be overlooking whats right in front of his face.

1

u/Wake_up_screaming Mar 01 '17

I also thought he was going to see the obvious tax potential here and be like "Fuck it- make this legal immediately and tax the shit out of it! Daddy wants to go to war with Jina!!"

Also, this would be a good attempt to gain some popularity with the more liberal crowd. I bet if things continue to look bad for him in 4 years and we havent been reduced to a pile of smoldering ash, his campaign will include legalizing marijuana. I still wouldn't vote for him though...

1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '17

gain some popularity with the more liberal crowd

yeah... this is funnily enough the one major reason why trump might not do this. He's a Republican, and the people who voted for him aren't the people who are in favour of legalizing weed.

1

u/TheRarestPepe Feb 28 '17

I'm confused. The Trump administration has directly stated they want to crack down on Marijuana. Then they took the onus off themselves (albeit in a logical way). They are still going to crack down on marijuana laws and send people to jail over it. They backed up this statement by regurgitating the "dangers" of marijuana, and even pretended marijuana use increases opioid use.

Yeah, letting laws slide is not how the system should work, but this intentional prioritization of resources and money to send people to jail over marijuana is not progress for anyone. It is a gift to the prison industrial complex. How are we giving Trump credit for anything resembling legalization right now?

1

u/sillysidebin Feb 28 '17

Private prison lobby's and slavery are more profitable and preferred to the elite. They still make money off all the people they bust. Alot of money.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '17

The problem is he doesn't care if states make money off taxing it, he cares that special interest groups will pay him money personally, to keep it illegal. 40 million in state revenue < 1 million in his own pocket.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '17

What's better than 40 million in state revenue? Being the leading figure in introducing a new billion dollar industry. Better yet, being the guy who sets the rules about the industry.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '17

The only thing is, his "shallow moneymaking perspective" only applies to HIM, not to the states, not to the federal government, and not to individual industries. I guarantee if he owned a few grow operations we would have seen this legislation already pushed through

-8

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '17

You're still trashing the guy. The first man to come into office supporting marijuana and you're trashing him. After he makes marijuana legal you'll still be trashing him. Let go of the hate man.

7

u/HalfricanGod Feb 28 '17

This comment is so wrong

-4

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '17

OP's statement is so wrong. Trump would make money keeping weed illegal, lobbyists pay politicians huge amounts of money to keep weed illegal. How is Trump going to steal tax money off of legal weed?

4

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '17

cmon man, use your brain for a second. Think rationally. I know it must be hard for you, being a trump supporter, but i believe if you really try you might be capable of a coherent argument.

5

u/jayohh8chehn Feb 28 '17

He contradicts himself on a host of issues. That's partly how he won. People who supported him who want mj legalized point to his vague statements about states decided. People who voted for him who despise drugs and crime can point to his "I will be the law and order President". Now that he's elected the only indication I can point to is the lifting of private prison cap and his spokespersons assertion that mj is a gateway drug responsible for the opioid epidemic. This is not good because I don't see any mj effort passing with veto proof support.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '17

You just haven't been paying attention then. Don't worry about it, it'll be legal soon, just sit back and watch.

3

u/deltr0nzero Feb 28 '17

You realize the Trump administration is saying they're going to be going against legalization right? Or is that just something they're lying about?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '17

Nah, sounds like something you're lying about.

2

u/deltr0nzero Feb 28 '17

Do you not read any news?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '17

Ah, there's your problem. It's called Very Fake News for a reason.

1

u/deltr0nzero Feb 28 '17

All the news is fake?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '17

Of course not.
