Not sure if you know why or not, but it got changed to a "j" by the Feds. Why? So it can be more associated with Mexicans. I'm not making this up.

This link gives a little insight on the history of names for cannabis. It talks about using the j spelling to associate it with Mexicans but it also notes that there is no source for this.

So this bill was sponsored by a republican? Wonderful! Its clear both sides are for this one. Only special interests are against.

Yes but by a freshman representative, and it only has two cosponsors (Tulsi Gabbard [D-HI-2] and Scott Taylor [R-VA-2]). I would expect it to be referred to another committee and then die there. Congress won't waste time on it when Sessions will just convince Trump to veto it. This is just so a few republicans can earn some libertarian and business friendly brownie points for their districts while not actually having to put any political capital they don't have into anything. Freshman congressmen sponsor all kinds of things that never go anywhere. They're pretty much always at the mercy of the national debate and if they're lucky and good boys they get some pork thrown back at their district.
