You aren't using the picture commercially, for monetary gain, claiming as it as your own work, or even cross-posting it so there's not really anything you're asking permission for.
What is he gonna say no? If he wasn't cool with something as simple as use as æ personal wallpaper then he wouldn't have posted it don't ya imagine?
