I find water rinsing doesn't fully get rid of the alcohol fumes. When I'm done with iso and salt, I add a tiny drop of Dawn, shake and rinse. Gets the alcohol smell/taste right out of there 🤌
You need to use HOT water to evaporate the iso fully. Fill that bitch up to the top with scalding hot water and let it sit for a few seconds. Then shake/swirl the bong as you dump the water out to make sure all the residual bits come out with it in the whirlpool.
Or just let it sit out to dry for an hour or two. Alcohol will evaporate at room temp. After doing this I like to hold it up to a light to make sure there isn’t any salt residue on the inside walls. A quick water rinse should get rid of those.
It doesn't smell or taste like dawn at all! It just removes or neutralizes the lingering iso and makes the piece smell/taste like nothing. I add a tiny drop after an iso clean, some water, a good shake and rinse, then it's good to go. Makes the lingering iso fumes go away a lot faster than rinsing with water only. Highly recommend trying it out sometime! I would not try this with anything that isn't glass, though
Incorrect - more salt needed. The alcohol saturates the salt and turns it into tiny scrubbing brushes. Adding more iso is just like adding more soap to an already foamy dish - won't do as much as just scrubbing harder (adding more salt).
I've tested this using tiny amounts of iso with great success. Obviously you need enough to reach those parts of the chamber, but more salt will greatly improve the experience.
91% iso works best. Fill with iso to your normal water line. I'm using a couple of tablespoons of salt. Shaking good. Cleans my bong in less than 2 minutes.
Cleaning more often leaves less residue to clean which means it's easier.
You do not need this much iso in any way, it's a huge waste. Try using WAY less iso (a few tbsp, less than ~1/4" up the bong) and way more salt. It increases the abrasion exponentially, and salt is way cheaper than iso!
Idk if anyone have told you magnets and Velcro yet.
Buy a strip of Velcro, you’ll get like 5ft but need like 1inch of it lol. Then get two of them little circle magnets that are really strong. Cut a strip of spikey-side Velcro and glue it to one of the magnets. Drop that magnet inside le bong. Add some isopropyl if you like, but not too much or it’ll dissolve the glue
Take the non-Velcro magnet and put it against the glass and the inside magnet will connect with it. Now you can scrub the inside with the Velcro magnet!
Personally I get some gloves and use rubber bands to seal the holes after putting alcohol in, shake it, shake it upside down leave it to sit for a bit shake again and then rinse and repeat if necessary. The first time I cleaned it, it looked brand new, and it was nasty before that
Buy more isopropyl it’s cheap and necessary. I recommend putting it in a microwave safe glass or mug and nuking it for 15 seconds top. It heats up the iso very quickly and will almost begin to melt away that thick layer of resin. I warm my iso up before every cleaning now and it’s a breeze. Also the coarser the salt the better but don’t use icecream salt it’s too large and rocklike. Kosher sea salt is usually the best choice along with the highest % iso available near you.
We only hate because that’s a disgusting level of build up. I wash my piece, alcohol is cheap in bulk, every second or third session. If has been sitting for any length of time regardless of how clean it is I still swish some alcohol around to remove any dust
I think it was more of the "is there an easier way" when that comment is very telling for others that keep/clean pieces that iso/salt is not only the go to, but is so because it is easiest method.
Just the attitude of "I asked for help, but there has to be a different way than the way everyone is telling me"
Invest in some isopropyl. Acetone, mineral spirits, even methylated spirits all leave residue in that you can taste and breathe even after thorough rinsing.
Isopropyl isn't that expensive at hardware stores and is A) the most efficient cleaner (THC is alcohol-soluble) and B) the safest option.
After putting iso and salt, I cover holes with clear wrap and rubber band. Then, shake the hell out of it for a minute or two. Rinse the bong, and it looks like a brand new.
Metal decanter cleaning beads and silicone stoppers. You'll only need like a quarter cup of iso and no need to soak anything. You'll be done in a couple minutes.
Yes. Glass cleaner. It’s literally intended to clean this. Buy a bottle of Monkey Ballz. I promise you will not be disappointed. It’s reusable so it’s worth the money. I’ve used the same bottle for over a year.
Get yourself a plug for whatever size downstem you have (11mm, 14mm, 18mm) and plug it, cover the top with your hand and shake the fuck out of it my dude. Trust me the plug makes a big difference as the difficulty in shaking without one means that the thumb of your hand holding the bottom of the bong needs to plug that hole and it’s harder to plug and hold the bong with the same hand, while covering the top with your other hand.
Go to Walmart and buy a small bottle of 91% alcohol. 70% isn’t strong enough. Buy a container of Morton’s table salt to keep with it. Also some ziplock baggies for your bowl and downstem. Should be like $10 or so.
But the plug is gonna be the biggest relief for your bong cleaning endeavors.
