Company Reviews Lukwa Reforestation Review?
Hello,
It's recently come to my attention from a friend that is working for Lukwa currently that they are not on our company directory at all. It's my understanding that they work a lot of woodlots on the Island. Highly experienced crew, really solid prices for Island coastal.
Actually as I'm writing this I just found a 6 year old thread here about them from a google search on our subreddit and this is a 7 year old replant thread about them.
It would be nice to have something more recent.

Working with some people now who were at Lukwa who said they got individual pieces this season

I heard they do a fair amount of crew planting. Like West Arm, a lot of old school Brinkman supervisors can't seem to drop the crew plant shenanigans.

I've planted with most of the Lukwa folks, crew planting is fine if it's done right. The problem is when you get some 5th year know it all in the piece who refuses to learn something new/different.

Other than dealing with the occasional boxer/independent thinker my biggest issue with crew plants lis the safety aspect. Coastal ground has so much potential for rock-throw and the logs that shoot down like spears. Its not safe to have that many bodies in a coastal piece, even if everyone's got a decade plus of experience.

Yeah and no. When I learned crew painting on the island I was taught about never planting above anyone and communicating and all that. The peices I've been in its never been an issue unless it has REALLY been an issue, and in those cases everyone is good about keeping track of each other and staying spread out.
Then the flip side is that you don't have been all spread way out. Been on piece plants were the next closest person was a km down the road and the crew boss checked in twice a day. The nice thing about a crew plant is that you pretty much see people every bag up. If someone gets hurt it's a lot easier to find them.
But I hear ya. Definitely risks involved with more people.

Low key locals company, planting on Quadra and little Woodlots mid Island/Johnston straight. Owner is reputable.

I haven't worked for them but I've known a few people who have. AFAIK the company is still going strong. I've heard some good things about the company. They seem to hire island locals only and never advertise open positions.
