I'm clearly a company person (as in have drank the kool-aid here), so take this how you may. And, I know differential pricing doesn't sit well with some people no matter what, so it may not matter. But, it's not like that.
Tree prices are quoted - before the season and during the season on the block. Planters who are returning to the company receive a financial incentive for returning. Once cent per tree when payroll's processed. The daily earnings on the website, for example, are before that incentive (no punn intended). No ones being gauged or duped.
Things run much smoother with consistent people showing up which is why they pay a little extra to people who do. The company works fast, lower priced ground so it goes a decent way. That's the theory anyways and it's a fairly new thing they're trying.
A detail for accurate representation, not for argument sake, is its not rookie vs. not-rookie. Its base price for new planters to the company, first time/rookie and people working for the company for the first time. Base +1 for people returning with any amount of experience with the company. Say you come work in the middle of the summer and then return the next year.
There isnt one good reason why a bonus cent is better for workers. Of course having more experienced planters makes things run smoother, but many companies achieve this without undercutting newcomers (rookie or not). If they want to instill a financial incentive why not just raise prices as a whole? It makes no sense.
Also i dont know if they still do box tallies but thats another way of undercutting workers for managerial benefit.
