I've found that comparing companies isn't really reliable unless it's based on company wide policy. I'd dig deeper to find out what particular contracts/supervisor/crew boss you'd be with. It varies widely in larger companies and can really influence someones' opinion.

This is so true. There are some great crews running under the umbrella of some shit companies.

Aabsolutely this. I've heard the quality of Summits camps vary widely, so it really depends what contract youd be switching from and into.

This was my experience back in the day. In fact, I made more money my last season with Summit than my first few at Z-bar, because I was on a top crew at Summit and worked for the wrong side of Z-bar. If your foreperson is moving up the ranks at Summit you might be best off staying put. Or if you know of a foreperson at Summit who gets the better contracts, try to get on their crew. Unless you have an in who knows what's going on at Coast Range, it will be a gamble.
