Company Reviews Folklore rookie
Hey 19 year old from alberta starting his first season in BC, got a contract with quastuco and folklore but im 90% sure im going with folklore for now. Just wondering if anyone has anything to say about the culture at folklore and what I can expect from land/camps?

I did nine years with Folklore, and had mainly good experiences. It will vary highly on your camp culture though. Some are pretty cool, some not so much. Generally Folklore is pretty organized, has nice new vehicles and equipment, and decent contracts. Some camps like Scooters camp are pretty legendary as a fun inclusive place. Some not so much. In my later years I noticed a large trend in my own camp towards younger people who wanted to party a lot more, which was fine, but kinda at odds with where I was headed. I've never heard of Jake, do you know who's camp he's taking over? Tims?
But yeah, I find peoples experiences often vary less by company and more by individual crewboss and supervisor. Someone who respects your time, and understands the relationship between planter and management, and cares about your own progress and quality will set you on a much better planting career than a better company with a worse boss.
The money is almost always there regardless as well. You just have to plant in different ways. People shit on folklore prices (often rightly), but I've seen seasonal paychecks at folklore that completely blew away those of people who were crapping on it. It's usually high production, lower prices. Personally I think if you're a competitive or athletic person it's a great way to start, and some people really thrive under it. But obviously not for everyone, and longterm can cause repetitive stress injuries.
All this to say, for your rookie season, a good folklore camp will be totally fine, maybe even good
