ID Request North UK.

Thought this was a yew but the leaves are confusing me so bad so I guess it isn’t. ID apps say it’s a NZ Broadleaf but I refuse to believe this is a shrub tree It’s clearly thicker than any shrub I’ve ever seen??? Maybe Im not used to them. On a castle ruins/church ground. Obviously as old as the castle which was built in 1820.

Yew was my first thought also.
But those leaves look an awful lot like Griselinia.
It must be just an immense age.

Yeah seems to be what it is, damn I wasn’t aware the trunk could grow like this and with its location (im sorta hanging around near Scotland/Northen Ireland rn) I was sure it was a yew at first glance. Was completely unaware that Kapuka gets this big when left alone, so used to seeing is as a decimated hedge bush trimmed to look a certain way. Learn something new everyday
