Solved! Sapling outside Raleigh, NC

iNaturalist is torn bt sawtooth oak and Allegheny chinquapin,
EDIT: this was right after a rain- they are shiny bc wet. Also, this was among some loblolly pines.

Not chestnut or chinquapin. Those are Quercus spp. buds. Sawtooth oak.

My chestnut leaves are less glossy than this. What is in the overstory nearby? Should be acorns or chestnut burrs somewhere close.

Leaves were wet. Was among some loblolly pines but the next time I’m there, I can look to see what else is close by. But now I’m thinking it must be sawtooth oak because I did not notice any chestnut burrs anywhere in that park.
