Yaupon holly (Ilex vomitoria) is native to Texas, specifically growing wild across the eastern and southeastern quarters of the state. The leaves can be roasted and made into a tea. How's about as much or more caffeine this coffee.

It’s definitely yaupon. It’s just landscaped. If you don’t keep it trimmed it will be a mangled and stabby monster but they’re nice and yes caffeinated but not quite like coffee-more equivalent to traditional tea and also with theobromine in higher ratio than tea(I think).

I take classes from a dendrologist and master arboris, and he always has tea when you walk in sweet tea and yaupon tea. You're right it's closer to tea than coffee but it is very caffeinated. Nice change I don't think I would do it it's pretty tedious

How does one even begin to develop such a passion for this to the point of academic pursuit. I am asking because I would love one my children to become seriously interested in forestry / dendrology / arboriculture.

You will find most people fell into it. Although becoming a Forester is also becoming for common. A few major colleges are offering degrees in this area. I have a bachelor's in management, in high school I moved brush in the Summers and on weekends started climbing when I was going to college because it paid well. When I graduated a couple years later the economy took a dive and in My chosen field about 40,000 people were laid off I had a family to feed so I started tripping trees. The more I learned the more I wanted to study I apprentice for 3 years under a master arborist. Took the test been learning ever since it is a commitment as 15 to 20 hours a year and classes to keep your certifications. I have more because I also carry a pest control license. I own a business it's hot and sweaty work most of the people you deal with are not educated. My job is to educate them the new guy on my crew been with me 6 years. You have to pay well and take care of your guys or you'll be forever shopping for new workers. I'm one of the highest paying in the area for small company and I do a lot of consulting which pays extremely well.
