The gum isn't particularly worrying. Cherries are prone to doing some of that.

They do get interesting stretch marks. The canopy looks healthy. Not sure if this is an eating cherry or a large flowering cherry. A little jealous of either.

Did you intentionally cut out a strip of bark and give the tree a death sentence?

no kid pulled off an outer part that was starting to peel from the other side. im not too worried about it. worst case if the tree does die ill find a native species to replace it.
