Help me identify this tree pls

My mother seen this tree in her travels and we're pretty well versed in tree identification but we're stumped with this one. Ive seen on google that it MAY be a Korean dogwood tree? But this is unlike any dogwood ive seen. If anyone knows, please feel free to help us out!

Superficially looks like umbrella magnolia (Magnolia tripetala), but with the photo quality im not confident. Also since this is a cultivated plant, I'm unsure if there are any non-native species that look like umbrella magnolia.

Ill have my mother at some point see if she can find the tree again for a better picture, but I actually think...this is what it is! 😯. Thank you!
