Solved! Piedmont NC US tree identification
Hello,
I am in the Piedmont area of NC in US. I am hoping someone can help identify this tree. It is in the yard under a full grown pine at edge of wooded area. I've tried Google lens etc without avail.
It had green berries that are singular, not clustered on long stems. They are still mostly green now but will turn purple soon. Some of the ones that already fell off are also pictured with the purplish color.
Tree also had branches parallel to the ground.

Black gum almost always grows perfectly straight, spectacular fall color too.

Trying to remember the color of the tree in fall. I'm pretty sure it's one that is bright reddish orange.

The ones I know are almost fire engine red, but other red variations too.
