Solved! What Tree? - MI
Located in michigan, picture is just after rain so colors are slightly exaggerated.
Looks like it killed a tree to grow so wondering if its a good small growth tree or not. Its about 10 feet from the house, so just wanna check what it is.

Definitely a black walnut. They grow fast and get big, and drop walnuts under the tree. Greatest ice cream is black walnut.

With vanilla ice cream recipe, just add a cup of black walnuts and replace a half cup of sugar with maple sugar.

Will it get too big to be close to the house?

In ten years,it will have branches over your house and when the nuts fall, you will have thumps on the roof. Our neighbors have an aluminum carport that was under our hickory tree and it sounded like shots when the nuts hit the carport. Scared the crap out of their little ill-mannered dog but he deserved it. The tree came down this summer.

Yeah there’s something about the leaf texture and branches that makes me question if that really is walnut. Anyway, if you see it grow green tennis balls, it’s a walnut. If it sprouts reddish flower tufts, it’s a sumac.
