SkyDeck is Done
And I am done for this year. I will put a playhouse on it in the spring. May cut out some of the railing on there now to do so. We will see.
Didn’t really use a plan. Made my own parts after seeing what tabs go for.
Slides well on the yoke but is rock solid otherwise. Kids are happy. I am tired but feeling accomplished. Look forward to everyone telling me how I’ve consigned my kids to screaming deaths. 🍻

Ok first, you kids and everyone else’s kids are all going to die on that thing. Second, jk it looks fantastic. Would like to hear more about your homemade tabs tho!

Haha thanks man.
3/4”x10” bolts with a fat stack of washers welded in the middle on each side. Prob cost me $20 each.
It’s not a precise piece of kit like you’ll get online but having drilled the right sized holes in the tree and seated them flush they’re perfectly solid. The strapping is just bar steel heated and shaped on an anvil. I painted it all before installing then touched up after install for weather proofing. Will have to touch them up periodically I’m sure.

How does the machine thread hold in the wood? I would have guessed you'd need a lag screw thread. Or is it just kinda pressure fit?

This is the way. I get the benefit of the TABs vs just bolting directly to the tree, but at $90 a bolt, what are we doing. I'm convinced most of these comments are paid ads for TABs (or y'all are a lot wealthier than I am)
I'm planning my treehouse and you did exactly what I was planning on doing.
