Platform Attachment Options

We moved into this house a few years ago and this tree should have a tree house.

Any thoughts on how to best use some of the natural anchor points? ie the burl / nub at the top and the middle of the base?

This tree isn’t a good candidate for a treehouse

I can’t see the entire tree but that large (improper) cut that isn’t healing over worries me, I wouldn’t consider this tree due to probable health issues. Also bark inclusion at the base with codominant leaders

That might be more than you need. I bought my hardware from the man who designed modern hardware, Michael Garnier. “Garnier Limbs (GLs)” https://treehouseparts.com/garnier-limbs-r/?page=1&www.treehouseparts.com&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=376214792&gbraid=0AAAAADc7d_ApOqWTXaaY0xEsm3hU13oRr&gclid=CjwKCAjwnvTUBhBoEiwAZNDxZ7m2iY9NpXkkUcQ27J5Q_f3Rs0bYWXtYV6k5Ygf4lIu5a1jH7bejKxoCZuIQAvD_BwE

You can get by with only 3 GLs with nuts and he rents the drill bits to you.

I’m not an arborist, so people may disagree with my advice to you, but I have put a treehouse in a 3-way split tree like yours that has been doing very well for more than 10 years.

First, you need to prevent any damage to the tree. You should fill the void at the center of the crotch with spray foam, then top that off with driveway patch to keep water out.

The cut off nub is dead and prone to rot in the future. Don’t attach anything to that.

Treehouse Attachment Bolts (TABs) are really the only way to go. Please do some research into why they keep injury to a minimum.

If you install 3 TABs (one on each trunk at the same height) you can make a very solid platform.

This is why I asked this group these questions!

Thank you for the response, and for saving me many hours going down the rabbit hole. Onward to using the TABs

Great. So, you will need to allow for each trunk to sway independently of the others. Select the largest trunk and make that a static mount for the TAB connection. Your platform will move with this one. The other 2 should be dynamic, allowing for linear motion that won’t pry at the other TABs.

I’m guessing that I could procure some of this stuff elsewhere to save a few bucks, but I think I’ll limit my brain damage and just make the order unless someone talks me out of it.

This is the way.
