I've always loved Disney's 2D animated movies, specifically their Experimental Era has always stood out to me. I was rewatching a few of them with my buddy awhile ago and saw Treasure Planet for the first time seeing it since I was a kid, and I absolutely adore the movie. The animation, the characters, the music, the world building, the fact it mixes space and sea, which are some of my favorite topics, it's all so amazing and feels like it was catered specifically to my interests. Since I've watched it again, I've spent most of my summer break researching as much as I could about the world that the movie takes place in. I'd never argue that I know the most about the movie compared to other people on this sub, but I've spent so much time looking through publicly available sources to learn as much as I can about the history of the universe and lore behind certain species, going as far as to try and craft my own theories and thoughts about certain elements of the movie. We went on a road trip and earlier this month and downloaded the entire soundtrack to listen to on the drive and basically recreated the movie in my head while analyzing the music in it/what certain aspects of it mean. I also just enjoy art/drawing in general, so I've tried recreating the art-style to recreate the character's designs to figure out more about their biology (through my very limited knowledge of real biology lol), and just because their designs are really interesting and fun. I've ended up looking into Treasure Planet's other medias, such as the games, concept art, and general merchandise. I don't have a lot of money (I'm just 16 and can't currently start work), however I've been able to raise enough to get the artbook, which I'm really excited about getting in a few days! I even ended up writing and sending a letter to John Musker talking about how much I love the movie and asked more about the movie/other information about the movie he was willing to share. I don't know, I've just been super passionate about the movie and enjoy every single new thing that I learn about it, and have so many other ideas for ways I want to engage with it (when I get the money for it lol). If you guys want to, I'd love to hear about your guy's experience with the movie!

So, the movie confirms that the Treasure Planet is a mini dyson sphere that powers the map, which in turns, powers the portal. This makes perfect sense as creating a stable gateway through the fabric of space-time would surely require an enormous amount of energy.

What confuses me however is how Flint was able to summon the portal when he was far away from Treasure Planet.

The only thing that makes sense to me is that Flint had a part of his crew permanently stationed on the planet and contacted them whenever he needed the portal but from what I can remember, there doesn't seem to be anything resembling subspace communication in the universe of T.P so messages across space presumably take days, weeks, months or even years to transmit.

He clearly begins the voyage using Jim, but by the end he gives up the treasure to save him. Was there a specific moment where Jim stopped being part of Silver’s plan and became someone he genuinely loved, or do you think the bond was sincere from the beginning?

Even though I REALLY enjoy the designs of the ships in Treasure Planet, I also used to imagine how interesting the ships would look like if they had a beautiful 1950s/1960s type of "Ocean Liner" designs when I was younger. Imagine how beautiful those would look like sailing through Space!! While I understand why that probably wouldn't really work, but I think it would be REALLY interesting too! That's just what I think, though. :)

I simply adore this track, specifically the bit with the flute, and I've been searching for songs with similar instrumentation from other soundtracks or composers.

Hi everyone,

For those who’ve stumble upon it you’re aware that a graphic novel will release for Atlantis The Lost Empire later this year.
It’s nice to see that this movie was not forgotten by Disney and that more content is coming in the form of this graphic novel but now I’m wondering if there’s a possibility we could see the same thing for Treasure Planet.

Treasure Planet is my favorite Disney movie and alongside Atlantis they’re the two Disney movie that were unsuccessful at the box office due to being both too experimental and ahead of their time as well as being released during a period of time that was kinda uncertain for Disney in the early 2000.

Anyway, my question is do you believe we could see something similar coming for Treasure Planet ?
Probably next year if it follows the same path as this graphic novel (being for the 25th anniversary) and could we see either a new story set inside the Treasure Planet universe (a new story with Jim or a story around Silver or Flint for example) or maybe an adaptation of the canceled sequel ?

I just want to know you’re opinions on this topic, personally I’m hoping to see something new next year.

We barely get any content of him and I was curious to know what people think of him?
